Modified dice roll message incorrect?

I'm playing the tutorial and the combat message in the log looks incorrect to me.
The message states a frontal attack by my LMG 34 (= 4), +2 CAP bonus, -1 terrain.

The message states the roll was modified by 6. Shouldn't it be modified by 5 (4+2-1)? If this is a bug, is it only a problem with the log display, or is the actual combat calculation incorrect too?

The terrain modifier affected their defense, bringing it from a 12 to a 13. So your roll was modified by 6 (4 for your firepower +2 for CAPs) and their Defense was increased by 1 (12 +1 for terrain).

We could probably phrase that a bit more clearly in the message.

I see, thanks for the explanation. If I checked the defense rating on the card for the Soviet Rifle Squad I could have figured that out. Since the terrain modifier is listed as -1, it appears to be applied to the attack roll.

The message would be more clear if it specified something like:
attack roll modifiers: attack vs non-armored (+4), CAP Bonus (+2) = 6
opponents defense: frontal attack (12), terrain bonus (+1) = 13
