What in the world is my sub doing during all this minesweeping going on? I left him in that hex to prevent this sort of thing.

ORIGINAL: Captain Cruft
I would advise don't get hung up on the numbers. FOW is ever-present and so is general cruftiness in the code. Check the actual state of things in the orders phase and just treat the execution phase reporting as indicative.
Excellent advice. I was beginning to think there were a total of 22 + 27 casualties or something. Thanks.

My Nells either didn't have an escort or they got separated from their escort......either way it was an expensive raid:

Unless and until somebody specifically requests them this might just be the last post I do about combat results in the China theater
since they don't look quite as good as the others I post.

Another expensive raid. I'm thinking I need to bombard that Wildcat squadron with my surface ships a bit before I attempt another raid like this one. Bombers flying into harm's way without an escort isn't recommended I gather. Note to self: turn off the Nell squadron before they do this again.

Just so the above debacle doesn't happen again, I've placed the Nells on "Naval Attack" missions. Maybe the surface ships can bombard those Wildcats a bit and even out the playing field enough for me to pay them a return visit in the near future.

Here's the kind of attack I was waitiing for. I reassigned the KB groups on "Naval Attack" kinds of missions and they found and attacked an Allied TF W of Pearl and got some hits.

I'm embarassed to have to report this but 6 Nells dropped one torpedo each ( presumably ) and MISSED a five-ship Allied TF near Mersing

Here's a report on some aerial action at Hong Kong. Lots of burning Allied ships left in the harbour there.

To get even the Allies launch a raid from Hong Kong on Swatow that gets a port hit. That tells me that I need some CAP there and maybe some sweeps on Hong Kong in the very near future.
Image

Accordingly, I fly in the 24th Sentai to Swatow to do the dirty work. It's probably overkill but they'll probably get the job done.

This attack result indicates that it was premature and that the Allied formation there could stand some bombardment for a couple of days or maybe some air attacks or both before they will give way. I'll put that on my to do list. I'm pretty sure I can work that in on my calender.

Here's the Signal Intelligence Report results. I'm pretty sure there's big doings going on at Singapore but I'm not sure what else I can glean from this report. Probably not much.

I was investigating the sigint hints and when I got to Pearl I found a really juicy target to the West of Pearl. It looks to be two TF's with perhaps a BB in one of them. Which implies that there's a CV in that task force. So I'm thinking I can run the KB down south a bit and see if I can get a rumble started. I've got all the Jap subs in the world patrolling around Pearl ready to give both TF's a hard time should they make it that far. Well, not ALL the Jap subs in the world but a lot of them.

Also, I was surprised to see that only 1 point of airbase damage was repaired. They've had from 7Dec am to 9Dec am to work on it and that's all that they can show for it?

There were two separate coastwatcher reports on ships in Pakhoi so I transfered a Sonia group closer to investigate and I've assigned a Mabel group to Naval attack so if anything turns up I'm ready. Also, I thought the other Sonia group at Samah could investigate the other close port to see if anybody is home.

Coastwatchers report Hong Kong harbour as empty but recon shows approx. 22 ships in port and another 7 in at least one TF. I've got some aircraft ready to take the ships out but I'm wondering if it would be better to leave them on "ground attack" missions for now. I have to make those ships dissappear before I can sweep the harbour for mines I know, but I'd really rather Hong Kong fall as quickly as possible. On the other hand the Allies might have some ships that can bombard my guys in that hex ( if and when they finally arrive there). So I'm torn as to which mission would be the most advantageous one.

The operation report suggests that there are some Allied ships near the Marshalls so I've got 2 PB's headed that way to check it out. It could be one or more Allied subs. If so I'll dispatch more PB's and whatever else ASW assets I can scrape up to contest those waters.

Here's a post on the operations report "sightings": Separate reports from veteran pilots of the KB who probably know what ships look like have reported at least two separate TF's moving West and NW respectively. I'm thinking I can split up the KB into at least two separate groups and pursue them both. I've got a 7 X AO group I need to protect at the same time though so maybe I need three separate CV TF's made up of the KB group. The northernmost one is probably headed for Midway, if it exists at all, and the southern one is probably headed for wake, also if it exists at all. I've got ships at both of those destinations but I don't want to wait for these Allied TF's to arrive there before I do something about them. I've decided it might be a good idea to split up the KB group into at least two separate TF's and pursue these contacts.

Here's what I decided to do.......I want the separate TF's to end up near but not in the same hex of the Allied TF(s) I'm pursuing. And I think points A and B will do that.
