Eastern Front 1915 with half week turns

Post by Jonathan Pollard »

I've modified the Eastern Front 1915 scenario to use half week turns instead of full week in an attempt to get additional realism. As part of this process I also cut the replacement rate for all equipment in half for both sides (in retrospect it may have been easier to create an event cutting the replacement rate for both sides in half) and made the appropriate modifications for the events. If anyone is interested in getting this modification send me a PM. I'd also like to try the Russian side in a PBEM if anyone is interested.

Alter USN-Analyst Spion,

make sure you also tweak the AD and MRPB rates. Otherwise it won't be the fluid battle that Der Kaiserliche Generalstab and von Falkenhayn planned and August von Mackensen superbly executed.

Suggestion: A mix of the full-week and half-week AD values (2+4/2) = 3; MRPB set to 3. Fortification values to be adjusted, too. The Russkies surely were surprised and couldn't entrench or fortify that quickly while being routed.

So, what do you think 'Yoni'? Let's adjust it and I am up for a PBEM test sire!

P.S. Mixed the values up in my original post; corrected now.

Herr Oberst,

When I tried a PO vs PO test, the Central Powers won a decisive victory with the AD and MRBP unadjusted. I'm willing to try a game with the adjustments you recommend. I also did not adjust the release dates of the CP formations that are frozen at start, I will leave it up to you if you want to adjust that or not. I think the CP could have released them in order to attack earlier than they did historically but maybe I'm wrong. I will email the scenario with the adjustments I have made. You may make the remaining adjustments and send the scenario back along with your first turn. I probably won't have time to do my first turn until late on Friday.

[EDIT] You should have my edited version of the scenario file in your email already.

It might be a good idea to also edit the railroad repair rates because if left unedited the rails will be repaired at a rate double what the scenario author intended due to the doubled turns.

I have been thinking about the other parameters as well. RR repair, replacement rate etc. I sent you an email with the Elmer vs. Elmer situation at turn 45. The AD can be left at a rate of 10, but the MRPB adjusted to 3 or 4. I will run a test with the AD=10 and MRPB=4 and see if it affected the situation and the final result.

Just finished another round; AD=10 is a no go. I'd suggest to halve it, AD=5 and MRPB=3. RR repair rate to 2. No need to adjust this one; we'll see how it works the first half of our PBEM slugfest. Will run another test.

I also doubled the turn number of all of the storm events, and included an extra storm event for the odd number turns in the storm season which I set at 60 percent probability like the original events.

[EDIT] If railroad repair of 2 makes it too easy to resupply the CP, then maybe the RR should start at 2 and be changed to 1 for the last part of the game so that the average number of rail hexes repaired per turn is closer to 1 1/2.

I'm also thinking about converting the Double Eagle Rising Sun 1904-05 scenario to half week turns. I contacted the scenario designer Erik Nygaard to ask what he would suggest as new AD and MRBP values for the conversion, and this is what he replied:

"If you want roughly the same amount of casualties and 1 battle pr day I would suggest that you double the attrition divider from 30 to 60 and halve the max rounds from 7 to 3-4.

Then some play-testing…"
