Here's another sighting report: I've decided that this report might be spurious but I don't want to take a chance that it's not, so I'm going to move the Ryujo to hex "A" and I've got the aircraft on her ready to repel boarders. Sorry for the clumsy arrows. I'm not all that good at cutting and pasting things together in a hurry. I'll try to do a better job hereafter.

This line from the operations report : "Taniguchi R. now available for reassignment" is great and everything but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with it. Is he a task force commander or a pilot or ??? How do I find out where he is and what to do with him now?

Most of those sighting reports are hogwash. If there's no enemy TF symbol on map, there's probably no TF there.

Here's the Signal Intelligence Report results. I'm pretty sure there's big doings going on at Singapore but I'm not sure what else I can glean from this report. Probably not much.

The Japanese Sigint report, every turn, amounts to "They had lunch at Island X. At Big Base Y they had a bigger lunch." I've yet to see a piece of actionable intel from this report.

Playing as the Allies the intel is better, sometimes golden.

I was investigating the sigint hints and when I got to Pearl I found a really juicy target to the West of Pearl. It looks to be two TF's with perhaps a BB in one of them. Which implies that there's a CV in that task force.

Does it? FOW in the game often increases the size of the reported ship. So a CA might be reported as a BB. When there are carriers it often multiplies them. More importantly, and I don't have an answer for you, what do you want the KB doing in two weeks? Get it moving there now.

So I'm thinking I can run the KB down south a bit and see if I can get a rumble started. I've got all the Jap subs in the world patrolling around Pearl ready to give both TF's a hard time should they make it that far. Well, not ALL the Jap subs in the world but a lot of them.

Sub deployment is a personal decision. Do you want that gaggle sitting around PH in the coming weeks? Think what the AI is going to need to be doing within the fuel time of those subs and get them placed where you can attack that. I also stratify my Hawaii pre-set subs by range and figure out if some need to go back to Kwaj early to refuel in order to not have block/cycle holes in my coverage a month from now. Ranges are huge in the Pacific.

This is good advice.

I don't know if this will assist you Larry but this image is from my plans for the first few months. If you use it I suggest you cater it to fit within your scheme...

Usually japanese Sigint is useless, but sometimes you get detection level above 1/1 (usually if there's two transmissions from one base). Then you can get some useful information, for example number of ships at port, some of the ship types, number of planes and men.

Also, if you get heavy transmission from non-base sea hex, there must be something there (maybe carriers, major warships, big convoy of several TF)

Yeah....I agree. I got three reports from Singapore on 9Dec and I'm still waiting for some good intel from it.

What if the intel says there was a radio signal coming from the hex YOUR TF is in? I got one of those too.

Many times you get sigint from your own bases too. I don't know, it might be a minor bug. But I know one thing. It's totally useless.

RE: Allied AI vs Fulkerson

When we last left off the situation near Kota Bharu we were watching a small Allied TF, made up principally of DD's, sailing NE of Singapore in the NE direction and we were wondering if it was going to interfere with the landings on the east coast of the peninsula. As it happens at CRB there's almost a dozen Jap TF's that have finished loading that are going to be headed south to the northern coast of Borneo. So it appears that there's two areas that need watching now. Coming out of the Saigon harbour is TF 101, made up of two CL's that were going to be the Borneo covering force and there's another TF at the east coast of the peninsula, TF 85, that we can strip off the landing force to send south to intercept the Allied TF. I'm thinking I want to leave the BBs at KB to bombard the Allied ground forces there. So I'd like to combine TF 85 with TF 101 to confront the Allied ships threatening both our landing areas. I'll have to keep in mind that there's some Allied air power to the west that could hamper our projection of force but I'm thinking that with enough DD's the air threat might be minimized somewhat. At least that's the plan. I hope all that was clear. Maybe I need a better picture to convey this thought.

When last we left off the northern end of the PI there was a small Allied TF threatening our landings on the northern end of the PI. He's still there and is still a threat. I've moved some fighters to Batan Island and most of the bombers at Formosa are set on "Naval Attack" missions and we've decided to proceed with the landings.

Larry,

Catching up on your AAR here.

Industry
You seem to be doing this "by the seat of your pants".  Thats ok.  If you read Mike Solli's AAR you would find that player like he and I spend several weeks planning out the economy.  Both of us have quite large spreadsheets that comprise our plans for production and production growth.

Since you are NOT doing that, then let me offer you two words of advice: GO SLOW.  It is really, really easy to crash the IJ economy.  Go Slow means make small movements and then sit back and watch.
1.  Don't make big changes to air craft production.  GO SLOW.  Build a few factories and then watch your economy.  Going hog wild on a building a/c will guarantee a crash in late Jan or early Feb.
2.  Don't increase either NSY or MSY initially.  Instead, stop production on things to balance your acceleration of others.
3.  Increase your VEH production to about 200 to start with.  It will take a month (or more) to get there.
4.  Don't increase anything else intially.

Get your resource convoys up and running.  You need to balance your resource demand in the HI by end of Dec.  If you can't, then re-focus on it until you do.  If you leave Jan and haven't balanced your resources, you are in trouble.  By balance I mean a slight increase over a weeks time according tracker.
Start your fuel convoys in mid Jan once Singers and PI have fallen, but not before.  You will need to repair oil centers (always) and maybe some refineries (your choice).  That takes a LOT of supply.  Have it ready before your amphib goes in.  I bring 50K supply for starters and then add as required depending upon damage.  You'd like to have your HI fuel balanced sometime in Feb if you can.  March at the latest.  Then you will know how much you can use for your fleet. Unlike the allies you do NOT have unlimited fuel.  Keep those fuel hogs in port unless you are actively using them in an operation.  This means all of your capital ships.  They gulp fuel like crazy.  You will have to stockpile fuel to use for big ops, so your capital ships will spend a fair amount of time in port.  Just like IRL ... amazing how good the game is.  [;)]

That's about all I have for you.  GOOD LUCK!!

BANZAI!!!

Pax
