Forgot Cam Ranh..

Word to the wise---You may want to make a mental note of this . The parent division of the (1), (2) & (3) 124th Infantry Battalion when combined will be located in China Expeditionary Army. I've combined those smaller units into the 124th Infantry Regiment in the past and the leader is terrible and it costs a small fortune in PPs to change it.

So you may want to run a test to see if you can live with the leader if you chose to combine.

Larry,
Thats very similar to my Wake Is invasion
1) The replenishment oiler is very necessary if you take the KB to Wake.
2) I got into a attrition battle over Wake - didnt understand how the Wildcats kept flying, but I was running out of supply/fuel & KB was needed in the SW Pacific...sooo
3) Hope you do better than I did... your combat results look very good!

I picked up a tip a good while ago in Mike or Q-Ball's AAR IIRC.... Merge ships with 53rd Naval Guard into TF16 and arrive at Wake when Kido Butai gets into the Wake vacinity, they'll take it everytime on the first try.

On another note if you were to PBEM

Just to give yourself something to think about don't be afraid to think outside the box with your first turn bonus moves in future games. For instance I've sent the 13 knot AO to Babeldaob but some allied players will try to make a play for your Wake force and take their carriers north. If you think you're facing that type of player you're prolly better off keeping the slow AO near the Home Islands and linking up with other replenshment ships of it's kind. Never, never put your AO's in harms way without air coverage and/or other assets snooping around for Allied CV/ships.

The faster AO's it all depends on your plans after Pearl (if that's what the KB attacks) My thoughts have them sailing to CentPac in a safe spot and anchor at a base (somewhere near the Mariannas) until KB sails west. If my sea search shows no threat to sail they'll hook up with KB SW of Wake. This way if I locate Allied carriers I can make a play for them without worrying about my AO's getting jumped.

The great thing about this game is you never stop learning and it seems someone always comes up with a fresh idea or something strategic that will help the cause if you read AAR's.

Have a great day guys, glad you enjoyed.

Thanks again SuluSea,

FYI - not a secret - most times I'm IJN... After PH the KB goes to Beetlebob and splits. 2CV meet up with CVL's from Tokyo and take out HK & Singers then move NW and start aggravating India (estimates 3-4 months to complete) Other half of KB goes to Truk and I play spin the bottle which way to attack from there...

I am probably the anti- IJN as far as escorting my TK/AO's go, everybody gets little friends to take along! Its funny if I'm playing the AI they seem to ramp up attcks against the TK's even more if I escort them - I always thought that was a gift from the game designers for not following IJN doctrine [:'(]

Thanks again

So I made sure the ships were headed in the proper directions and fiddled with the land units and took a look at the aircraft missions and decided to pull the trigger for 10Dec and here's the losses that resulted ( Details below ):

There's some Allied BB's that are finally showing up in the sunk list. There was a flood of boats fleeing the forest fire that is Hong Kong and I intercepted a lot of them. Surface forces and my air assets took out a lot of them but there were some survivors headed south toward PI. I'm going to try to hunt them down and dispatch them. Hong Kong got clobbered by air this turn and the land forces did a recon by bombardment just to soften them up and make sure the Japs outnumbered them, and of course they did. 11Dec I'll do a DA and it will fall I'm pretty sure. I'll follow this post with the details.

But before you get the combat details I just gotta share with you this animated strategic map. You can see how the Jap ships are leaping out of the home islands and streaming SSE toward PI and the coast of Borneo etc. Also, on the 11th of Dec you can see the survivors of Hong Kong making a bee-line toward the south. I think it's pretty cool. I'm going to keep adding turns to it so we can follow along as the game progresses.

There were several night and day surface combat events near Hong Kong, this is just the first three. It looks like some MTB's stayed at Hong Kong to prevent any minesweeping I guess. I wonder what would happen if I mixed in some CL's with those minesweepers and did a minesweeping mission anyway? Anybody know?

Here's how things went at Wake. As I expected the coastal guns got lucky and got some hits on my boats and the Allies outnumber my dudes. I've got a BB TF headed this way but it's still several days away and the Allies have some aircraft at Wake to harrasse my guys so it's not looking especially peachy. I'm not enthusiastic about bombarding w/ the DD's present there but it's better than nothing right now.
EDIT: No wait, I'm reading that wrong.......my guys actually outnumber the Allies so it's not as bad as I thought.

6 ( six ) dud Allied torpedoes in a row is all that saved a boat-load of Betty's from being lost. I could see loosing the boat but I need those Betty's intact. They are being unloaded on the PI as we speak thanks to six consecutive dud torpedoes. The landings are going on despite the subs and I'm glad the losses aren't higher then they are. I gotta get my ASW guys busy and do those subs in before they sink somethiing really really important.

Here's an animation of the northern coast of Borneo from last turn and this turn. I did this just to see what it would look like. You can see the Borneo invasion forces headed south and the Singapore blocking forces headed to the east to try to catch the fleeing Allied boats from Hong Kong, although they are probably headed for Manila. Not too shabby.

Speaking of the north coast of Borneo.......there's a new kid on the block.......a smalll-ish Allied TF appeared on the radar screen and looks to spoil the landings on Borneo. I have some assets nearby so he'll probably run into my welcoming committee pretty soon. I'm going to go ahead with the landings trusting my blockers to block properly. At any rate, it's too late to call off the landings now anyway.

Jap torpedoes are better than Allied torpedoes. Just one appears to have done the trick near San Diego. The Allies sortied and I just happened to have a sub ready. Way cool beans.

I made an expensive mistake. My Zero's were set for sweep instead of escort and the Betty's went in alone and got shot up. I didn't do my due dilligence this time and my flyboys paid for it.

Here's how the landing went at San Fernando: The losses were a little higher than I was hoping but it's still doable I think.

Here's how it went on the ground in HK. We did a recon by bombardment and next turn is the direct assault. Or Deliberate attack, or something like that.
