German numbers vs "real" numbers - well, one thing is ofc that that differs is that my troops have not really lost alot of troops attacking throughout -42, as the Axis did irl. And tbh was it not after -42 the German divisions were divided further, so that the loss of my 20 divisions should actually be closer to 400-500k?

The mud is still here, so we do nothing but dig. Can anyone tell me if mud affects the digging rate of my units? It seems they dig slower now, but it might just be me that is anxious to get the new lines finished...

Hi Terje,

I was purposly using RL OOB numbers pre the start of Fall Blau, compared to ur numbers on page 8 i think 16 july OOB so pretty close to that date. Obvious there were some fighting before in the spring like 2nd Kharkov and so on, but u did also make attacks in that pre july periode. Ofc one can debate if on same scale.

In mud u build at 1/4 pace of clear IIRC.

Overall
In the word of House Stark - Winter is coming...
Not much for us to do but keep digging, remove some forts and reduce the length of the front by one hex by falling back one hex in a few positions. 2 new forts are added to the map, while we disband 7 that were built too optimistically.

Oloren's mails suggest that he does not realize just how close he came to break my back in -42, I on the other hand try to show some confidence and claim that it was not a close call.
For when you are allowed in here Oloren;
1. Only my panzer divisions had the strength to throw back your forces, and there are not alot of panzer divisions available...
2. The alternate attacks between the centre and the south was close to becoming my undoing
3. Had you pushed a little harder in the south, the entrie front would have crumbled as there was no combat ready troops available to fill any gaps.
4. I have been given time to refill alot of my divisions by now, leaving me in a far better position than before
5. I have had time to finnish another fallback line.

This is no disrespect to Oloren in any way, it just is to show how the game might seem completely different from the two sides of the save-file, and a learning oppertunity for others.

The map positions may be creating some overconfidence in Oloren; he has the huge manpower and eqiupment advantage but the quality gap may still be considerable.

I think that he might also feel the NEED to do something, anything, as he knows he has the initiative and upper hand in terms of troops. Furthermore he also knows that more and more defensive lines are being built further behind, ehich means new obstacles for him to tackle as he advances. More time is a godsent for me at the current time, although I will never manage to finish all the lines I would like.

Again, something is askew with the losses report (USSR losses are given as about 35% lower than they are in terms of combat alone, not to mention attrition losses).

Although, he does not need them, he can do what he wants when he wants. I only have a handful of units able to push him back, so I guess it will soon be time to sacrifice some Rumanians, and heed the words of the Prophet Bruce Dickinson, and "Run to the Hills"...

The rivers finally froze, and the Rumanians shatter and rout in the south. I am now somewhat concerned that I will have to pull back to the blue line in post #77.

Overall
The USSR keep pushing in the south, and are now at the outskirts of Odessa. Unfortunately most of our MP are spent on moving units, so the ammount of attacks we can make are somewhat reduced. The USSR make 12 attacks, scoring 3 helds, 4 retreats and 5 routs, the routs being on Rumanians. Not all Rumanians run away at the first sight of the enemy though, some of them actually fight to the death (see below). We make 6 attacks, and score 4 retreats and 2 routs. The fact that we now make more retreats than routs is a slight concern.
