UAC issue with the Game Menu

Post by chulett181 »

When I installed CoH, the icon associated with the Game Menu (autorun.exe) and the executable itself has the UAC blue/gold shield on it and I'm curious why that would be. Because of that, every time I start the game, UAC prompts me to ask if it is "ok to allow this program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer".

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, by the way, with UAC set to "Default - notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer".

Lots of programs installed on this pc but this is the first I've had the shield show up like that. A shortcut to hexgame.exe doesn't exhibit this, only the game menu.

Thanks.

Probably because it connects to the internet so that you can join a MP game.
Conflict of Heroes "Most games are like checkers or chess and some have dice and cards involved too. This game plays like checkers but you think like chess and the dice and cards can change everything in real time."

May that be the reason? mostly every game connects to the internet nowadays to play online; I can't remember any other asking for administrator permissions. Anyway I'm not that much of a gamer so not really sure.

Anyways, first thing I did was changing the desktop shortcut target to
"C:\Matrix Games\Conflict of Heroes Awakening the Bear\HexGame.exe"

That file doesn't ask for any permission and launchs the game right away.

It may be that the link from the main game menu tries to run HexGame.exe with elevated privileges. Running with elevated privileges may solve some problems that some users might have when the game tries to write to the preferences file or read from the registry, for instance. In general we found that most users could run HexGame.exe without elevated privilege and experience no problems, but it is possible that some users with certain security settings may experience issues unless the game is running with such elevation.

My PC asks that for a lot of my games. I have the same install path as CesarM and I get the prompt.
