It is sometimes a little unclear when your screenshots are taken. Before, during or after Soviet moves? There seems to be a lot of no mans land between the lines, do you fill that up later or is it intentional?

Sorry about this [:)] There is indeed the no man's land you see on the screenshots. Marquo and I are a couple of chickens [:D] Yes, many times the screenshots may be before-and-after-soviet-moves. I know it's important to be next to enemy units but I considered I was too weak, that's why I'm staying away. I mean, there's no point in being adjacent to enemy units if on the next turn you will be kicked out.

I guess the game tries to simulate the historical thing: small and numerous Soviet armies. In fact perhaps I need one or two regular armies, but we will see.

And I hadn't thought about something. I had (end of winter 1941-42) gathered all the tank brigades and cavalry divisions. There are still many of them simply because the AP shortage. The thing is they can't be idle (it's irrational) whilst I really need to take back lots of land. Therefore they will be sent to the main area of operations. I want Marquo to feel really overwhelmed. NO! I want to scare the hell out of him! I know it's just a psychological thing but still, it might work. In any case, I have to try.

This is far better methinks. Not a lot of punch, I know, but they provide mobility *the flanks of wannabe stubborn enemy units* And that alone may force Marquo to give up more chunks of land: he might feel more threatened that is [8D]

The screenshot of the area south of Rostow (or north of the Caucasus) was before any Soviet movement. This is the end. There won't be a pincer form this area à la Stalingrad [:D]

Also how many AA regiments and battalions you have.

a couple of things:

1) those ArtDivs looks pretty weak yet (200 guns), I think they take a few turns to fill up.

2) The proper Russian term is "davai" not "dabai" [:)]

as for the AA units, I have 83: 31 regiments + 52 battalions

I am not really paying a lot of attention to the air war (in WitP AE I truly micro-manage it though). The lack of APs forces me to focus on the land thing (replace losses). I cannot even appoint leaders [:(]

I don't like how the air bases are created either. This random thing drives me crazy... I know it's chrome but I love staying organised. IAD = fighters; BAD = level bombers; Shad = tactical bombers and so on... I might need a Shad but then I get (random decision) a NBAD... which I don't need. But I am forced to use it (for let's say the tactical bombers).The whole thing is in the end chaotic [8D]

The units were created like 1-2 months ago. Perhaps it's a lack of proper armaments.

When I was in Russia that was the word I was listening the most: "davai" [:D] A "v", not a "b". Ok, thank you.

Also note not a single German plane was destroyed on the ground [:D] I never attacked the airfields (in WitP AE they are the most popular targets!).

Think about this statistic. During the Great Patriotic War the Red Air Force needed 30 sorties for each German plane destroyed in the air. But to destroy it on the ground only 5 sorties were needed. The simple truth was that these airfield attacks were rather complicated (for the Soviet airforce), fact which was acknowledged by the Soviets themselves.

Well, Artillery Divisions have been put to good use near Moscow and what can I say...? A big fiasco [:D] Still, I wanted to try.

The truth is their experience is still in the 20s, therefore they are a bunch of lousy novices only good to empty the weekly vodka tanks. This, I should have known.

Er, anyway (aka let's see the glass half full), if Marquo perceives I am making many attacks near Moscow that might force him to pay attention to this area aka do not divert panzer hordes to the area which really matters to me aka winter offensive area. The goal, remember: advance towards the general direction of Kursk.

And and and, the thing is I might more or less succeed! [X(] Let's see, this turn he has also withdrawn one hex minimum (as if that was going to save him!). I will push him anyway. And he is apparently keeping his armored hordes elsewhere, namely Moscow area and north of the Caucasus. And this is of course important as they would be an excellent deterrent aka I should be forced to be much more cautious. So I might gain let's say 2 hexes per turn. In 3 months I might have advanced let's say 24 hexes and thus get near Kursk. In theory...

Hmm, this is good news for me. And perhaps he is throwing overboard his excellent (and my horrible [:D]) summer campaign. Spring will tell.

Details of the attack. YES, a command penalties hell. What else could I expect? [:D] I cannot afford to reassign Rifle and tank corps (or many divisions for that matter). Not to mention that I would be necessarily overloading some armies. I keep using the APs to keep the pace (goal: 450 rifle divisions).

Uncle Joe got it wrong [8D] If quantity mattered the Chinese should have kicked the Japanese out (1937-1945). But they didn't.

I guess Stalin said that to merely justify his clownish orders to the Red Army.
