Pranning is fun, for a change.

Benkoelen and Padang are two possible choices for SW Sumatra landings. Both have existing small airstrips whihc are crucial to have quickly so the carriers dont have to be subjected to LBA for too long.

Two islands offshore are still green dots and are buildable to level 6 but with crappy ports

Don't forget Siboroet island while you're planning for Padang. Padang's also got a dot hex just inland which is connected by rail (!) Three interlocking bases here sound promising for a foothold.

Yes, and Padang is within P-40K range from Palembang. Of course, we have zero intel on both Siberoet and Padang. The nearest ALlied base is, I think, Kaggala on Ceylon (35 hexes). That's too far even for the PB4Y.

I think the thing to do is plan for both CD guns and a brigade of LYB's and then recon with recon F4F's on the way in.

That means you bring naval bombardment BB's and at least 2 divisions (preferably 3) plus engineers.

I think "Cluster" is right because if we tried to land at Koepang of Flores it would be a "Cluster ****"

Admiral Lords Sprior;

I started some AP's from Geraldton toward Sud Afrika last turn. There are some new Pongoes there. Maybe you can use them for your landing? [:)]

What do we have in India that is experienced (other than the prostitutes, I mean)?

We've got Chindits but we've asked for ointment.

Some shiny new convicts should be arriving at Aden soon.

Of course the Aussies are shiny, having been sandblasted in N. Africa for 2 years the customary dirt is long gone ...

I hate those things.

Yes, I see them now 9th Aus Div. That is perfect, take the whole Aus I Corps and the 29th Brigade. That means you can't start prepping the 9th for 14 days, so the earliest landing is 64 days out, early March. That gives us 2 weeks to take Darwin and then 6th and 7th Div can start prepping for another landing. They could be perhaps lifted from Darwin, sail all the way around Oz the long way, rest and refit and Perth and then unite at sea with 9th coming from Ceylon or India.

You are going to need the two USN CV's and Formidable if she can make it in time, plus some CVE's to cover the transports and provide land based fighters ready to fly off when a base is captured. Maybe 3 CVE's and Hermes?

You can take Repusle, PoW, and the two able-bodied USN pre-war BB's for bombardment duty. If the two fast BB's are back from repairs on the West Coast, then maybe Indiana and Washington can go along for AAA.

I think there is another candidate for the bombardment TF but you probably want to get her started to SoPac now...

You can take Repusle, PoW,

Firstly we have to work out where to take them.

Yes, yes, but we can flesh out the details like where the attack will be later.[:)] It is bound to make the PM happy. I would suggest we take Turkey off the list.

I favor Sumatra over Java. Burma or Siam is a stretch right now because of the current weakness of Allied bomber strength in CBI.

I like the simultaneous attack on Padang and Siboeret notion. It improves our chances of seizing at least one airfield by day 2 and we have a good chance of surprise. Maybe Sipora too, which has no airfield but is buildable and likely has no garrison and could serve as a PBY base until the airfield is built. Two airfields are harder to shut down than 1.

I see these benefits:

1) Chance of surprise

2) 2 existing level one airfields in close proximity

3) Very good protection/warning of JJ surface attack because they have to circumnavigate Sumatra to get to us.

4) Very good opportunity to achieve local air supriority over Palembang and blow the crap out of it once we have level 3 airfields.

Main disadvantages:

1) Crappy port

2) Almost impossible to recon.

Hmmm - like the allied officers on USS Missouri in a previous posting, these fellows all seem to have midriffs that are larger than their chests ... looks like you can be chintzy ... er ... thrifty - with the supply for the first month.

Speaking of that, did you really have an uncle with the Hun in the Great War? I had thought it was some kind of literary reference that none but Englishmen would understand. You aren't one of them Saxe-Coburg's are you?
