AK conversion to AR?

Post by KPAX »

After a long time off to finish my Masters and do some traveling I have returned to WitP. [>:]

AE is new to me so I have many questions which I am working through. My first for this wonderful forum ....

In the older version of WitP there was the ability early on to convert many AK to AR, etc. in the full game. I can not seem to find any AK to convert to ARs. Am i missing something? [8|]

Nope. On the US side none can be converted. And damned few on the Japanese. I think their is a Dutch or Ozzie gun boat that may be converted. That's it. On the other hand, AR's are a lot less usefull in AE than vanilla WITP.

Not true. Many converts on the IJN side and this is not a complete list. Of course many can't be done until into '42

Got the Tracker and it is pretty cool.....

There are no AR conversions in the full game for the Allies ....

They seem to be very short on AR during the game .... Anyone know if that will be a problem from experience ?

Yes, early on as the Allies, I protected my AR, AS and AE ships very closely when deploying
them forward. Going into 1944 you get a lot more of them.

i'm in 7/42 of a DBB_B game vs. the IJN AI, i have 3 AR total, no conversions available, 18 scheduled to arrive. 6 weeks 'til the next one shows up at Balboa.

AW1Steve might be correct that ARs are less useful in AE than in vanilla WitP, but they do have their uses. IMO they should be placed at an advanced base whose port value is less than 7. they'll repair major damage to any ship, if that damage is 5 or less. 1 of the initial 3 is a Dutch boat, get her down to Darwin if you can.

see this thread, forum regular Alfred has written 'Ship Repair 101':

as a general note, if you see a post by Alfred, you can take his info to the bank. unlike me, i sometimes post garbled info from a fallible memory.

Only conversion (in Stock scen 1) that I know of is the Dutch CM Rigel (starts in Batavia I think), it shows having an upgrade scheduled, but can then convert afterwards. I usually send it to lay mines at Oosthaven and home port to Colombo, where I park it so I don't accidentally lose it before then! (I know, we shouldn't 'know' that it will someday become eligible to be an AR, but after the first round of minelaying, you won't have enough mines for a while anyway).
Just when I get the hang of a game, I buy two more... :)
