Gents - the news you've ALL (secretly) been waiting for.

The Australian Beauties Quarter Final draw has been made. The eight young ladies require your presence in the General Discussion Forum.

Thank-you.

It's not that much of a secret. Unless Mrs Dixie is around and in that case I have no idea what you're talking about.

First new set of tires (tyres for you Old World types) for the Cayenne. Pretty happy with getting a good 55k miles out of the first set. [:)]

Congratulations. Best wishes to you and the new Mrs Empire (Empiress?).

Found my first grey market lightbulb store. Mom & Pop hardware store run by a Guatemalan family. Cases of lightbulbs out back, where it's dark [:D]. The fellow's wife's cousin is a manager in a Mexican lightbulb plant. Couple of US manufacturers closed up shop up here, fired everybody, moved across the border, and built a couple lightbulb factories. Heche en Mexico is becoming a label to look for. This is so cool, watching the worm turn.

If you're referring to the nascent rise of Mexican manufacturing fending off Chinese, SE Asian and American manufacturing, I'll give you a great big "meh" to that. Yes, they've done better in the last 2 years than previously, but they're still at a competitive disadvantage globally to many other manufacturers and economies.

Try this on for size: "Who is the largest private company employer in Mexico?" Largest / fastest growing retailer?

Mexico has more to be concerned about by the manufacturing capacity al norte than vice-versa, IMO.

Those are classic lightbulbs?

No more US production for those in ASA?

BTW, I changed all my classic lightbulbs for low-energy lightbulbs (i.e. compact fluorescent lamp = CFL) years and years ago... although I use the "warm light" (i.e. yellowish light) variety and not "cold light" (i.e. bluish light) variety...

Oh my, oh my. I am so sorry. Had no intention of discussing the socio/politico/economic structure of Mexice vis a vis thr rest of the world.

Just thought it interesting, in a droll, cynical, and amusing kind of way, that we would urinate on something as simple as a lightbuld only to have lightbulb production move to Mexico and be as universally available as they always were. Just like the Oaxaca seeds got imported and then extinguished, only to become Michuacan. [:D]

Yep, classic incandescent lightbulbs. Banned by EPA regulations. It's phased in over a number of years, with 100W coming first, then 60, then 40, then the bulbs in your chandeliers and christmas trees. All must be replaced by an EPA approved alternative. The bann is on sale and use. If you use one, you are in violation of a Federal Regulation. It is not a Law, so you have no legal rights. There is no defense, there is no appeal. Tremble and Obey !!!!

Okay then,

Pork baby backs, marinated in John's 'Jesus Saves' BBq sauce;

Mary help of Christians white corn on the cob, picked this very morning from the cornfield a quarter mile down the road, dusted with Hungarian sweet paprika, dried cilantro, slathered in sweet butter (sauted in garlic);

Patrick of Ireland potatoes. Ya can't go wrong with anything from the Emerald Isle, but.. Baby russets, fist size or less, rolled/tossed in bowl of oilve oil, Mediterranean sea salt and a tsp of cardamom. Roast till skin is Krispy.

The Magdelen Tart. Peaches are early this year, and while Georgia is flooding the market, Chilton County is up and boogying. Fresh peaches sitting for a bit in lemon juice, some zest, some of last years pecans ground up tight. Again cardamom, and a peench of cinnamon. A couple grates of nutmeg show well (so long as you don't buy wooden nutmegs from some unscrupulous Connecticut yankee), Four or five sticks of Cloves, and believe it or not a half clove of garlic.

Woofus, Gastronomicus. !!
