Evolving unit names/types

Post by Schmart »

Is it possible in the editor to replicate the historical type and name evolution/path of new units added to a scenario? As a generic example, a Tank Regiment converting/renaming to a Light SPG Regiment, then converting to a Medium SPG Regiment.

Yes you can by setting the TOE/OB upgrade path - however it will effect all units with the same TOE/OB. Also the units will upgrade at about the same time. You can already see this happening in game when German Motorised Divisions upgrade to Panzergrenadier Divisions at end 42 / early 43. They change name, structure and symbology.

You can manage this at individual unit level by giving each unit its own TOE/OB but that is a bunch of work.

That's interesting. Hadn't thought of that. Especially for groups of units following a similar path, I could just create a new specific set of TOEs, that will upgrade in a specific TOE path. Doesn't sound like that big of a deal. For individual units with specific TOE paths it might be more work, but those cases are rare.

What about the naming of units though? If a unit changes it's designation from say 75th Regiment to 57th Regiment on a specified date, can I set that with the editor?

No - you can change the suffix through upgrade but not the unit title. To do so would require a withdrawal and arrival and you couldn't predict where the unit would be to make it seemless.

I appreciate the help, Lancer.

Too bad. I guess it's arrive/withdraw and arrive/withdraw, etc for me! Speaking of which, I can only find a withdraw function. Is there also a disband function for units?
