They have done quite well .[:D] . but the submarines have to pick up the pace if we are going to make an impact and affect the outcome. Right now we are sinking xAK's but the production on the Home Islands is far more affected by the operational pace of early to mid 42 than sinking of merchants. The parking of the combined fleet has allowed more economic recovery and I think the IJ is actually storing a reserve. This is a dangerious situaiton as we expand.

I was planning on submarines having more of an effect forcing the make decisions between the economy or operational pace.

The night fighters continue to be quite ineffective against unescorted bombers but it is not going to change. Flak is taking its toll in attrition. This raid 4 damaged aircraft and 2 shot down by flak.

The IJNAAF set up a mission of naval attack/ground attack. We set up a very small CAP trap over our ground troops. The IJAAF CAP is protecting there troops moving in the open near Bangkok .. its an opportunity ..[8D]

We are still at least 3 months from getting all the forces into teh Southeast Asia theater for "Meaningful Kangaroo". In the meantime we have out stripped our ability to move aircraft bases forward by land and IJN dominace prevents any seaborne adventures.

The map below shows the story. The IJA have been reduced to about 50,000 troops in theater now holed up in Bangkok. Another base is Port Blair with about 20K IJA and the IJN including Betty's and CV"s. We are coming with 3000 AV from multiple directions seizing potential bases around Bangkok and isolating the IJA from escape while establsihing jump off points for the final drive into IndioChina. Right now , Ayuthia holds the key to Southeast Asia right as an immediate objective.

From an operational perspective Bangkok is surrounded by river with one portal .. a gateway so to speak Ayuthia. It is clear terrain and a fine target for 4E's. The IJAAF have stationed 136 fighters right now with what a suspect will be a deeper investment of airpower. The Allies are struggling to get BF's, and more importantly supplies into this theater. There are breaks in rail and roads the limit the supply trains from Burma and then there are the breaks in supply LOC from India. Looming in 25 days is the monsoon.

So we continue to advance and isolate Bangkok preparing for "Meaningful Kangaroo" .. but I suspect right now that Jan '44 taking of Cam Rahn Bay will be very ambitious. The first objective .. Ayuthia before the rains begin ..

The Map of the Marshalls below shows the situation after taking Wolje. After incessent 4E and 2E raids there were 50 support personell left on the atoll .. we brought in two Marine Rgt's just in case. The APD's are now taking off the Marines from the Atoll as we get ready to clean out the next Atolls. The whole process from start to finish takes about a month including building the ports up enough to take off the heavy stuff.

The map also shows our projection over Ponape. Eventually this atoll will feel our wrath ...

I will be able to execute a faster opertional pace once the Essex CV's come into theater. Right now I am restricting operations wihtin interlocking patrol zones. Those patrol zones are now extending to 20 hexes from 15 with the new B-24's that patrol ...

SOUTHEAST Asia:

The map below shows how Burma and Sotheast Asia are progressing. The IJ have made a committment to Bangkok and more importantly Ayuthia with 25,000 troops digging in on the river crossing. The IJAAF have 130 fighters at Bangkok to prevent 4E's from dislodging this position.

In the meantime, IV Corps positions to the west of Bangkok and seals off northern Malay while engaging the IJA rgt with the 7th Division at Tavoy. A mixed AUS and USA Corps is gathering at Chiang Mai, but in 15 days the Monsoons start -- meaning 1/2 suplies to everywhere in theater.
