Allied Torpedo Boat Tenders - Why so Few?

Post by Capt Cliff »

I have just noticed that the Allies have a limited number of AGP's and I have yet to find any ship class that I can convert to one. The Japanese have a ton of AK's that can be converted to an AGP but why not the Allies?

I think it is because there were very few. In my limited research I have found AGP's to have been everything from converted LSI's to yachts that were donated to the Navy. Pre-war I don't think there was any plans to use PT boats at forward bases. Or perhaps with pre-war budget cut they were just one of the things on the chopping block.

& there's not nearly enough ARs, nor are there available conversions, neither!

i've got 3, at Darwin, Luganville & Midway. a 4th just arrived at Balboa. i'd gladly trade an old BB or even a modern CA, for another AR.

planning 'best use' for the limited support-types is a big part of the game. there's enough AVD/AVP/AD/AS/ARD available at start, & some AG/AE conversions. most of them are crying out for an upgrade to their AA suite.

You'll get some more later, in the shape of converted LSTs. There just weren't that many in total.

this is why i miss AG Utah not being in Pearl Harbor at start, it could have been the base for almost any kind of support conversion.

i could easily see it converted to AR,AD,AS or AGP. several older BB''s had been converted to crane ships.

there is a technical term for those who confuse the opinions of an author's characters for the opinions of the author.
the term is IDIOT.
