This was taken just before the match kicked-off. It was just announced over the tannoy that the young lady in question has just won the raffle: she will be joining me, Jenna, Jessica, Salma and Kate on the beach in Mauritius tomorrow. Congratulations Agnieszka - we'll see you tomorrow [:)]

My sediments exactly - still have big soft spot for them from when I was a kid at the time of the 1974 World Cup (even though it was them that knocked us out). Great team - Lato, Deyna, Grabowski, Tomascezski(?) et al.

My dad really wanted them to beat the Germans (because of the war) in the deciding match of the second group stage (effectively it was the semi-final) but as usual the Germans spoilt the party - as they did in the final against that magnificent Dutch team. [:(]

Great memories - watching the footie as a small boy with my old dad, god rest his soul [&o]

Ok, joining this discussion at a late stage, I know, but I need some moral support here...
We (Denmark) are playing against Germany (!!!) tonight in the last round of Death-Group B.
In all probability we need a win to go through - but if we do, it should be smooth sailing right to the final :-)

My hope is that we beat Germany and both of us then go through.
We can do with a tie, too - as long as the Dutch are so hell-bent on saving their faces that they give it all against Portugal (although, as with every match the Portugese play, the result ultimately comes down to how good/bad a day Ronaldo chooses to have...).

That Denmark even has a chance of going through to the quarter finals at this point is more than I expected.
Germany - Portugal - Holland... Our program looked pretty scary for us when we started...
regards,

Briny

I think the Danes need to forget all about the chance of losing and just go at the Germans. This is no time for faint hearts.

Look at Russia yesterday. They were content that a draw would see them through and they paid the price for it.

Good luck.

HA HA HA

Needless to say I am going to watch the Netherlands vs Portugal match. Not sure the Dutch will be able to win by 2 goals. In any case that's what I'm hoping!

But one thing I know: whatever happens there should be some stick (De Jong, Pepe, Ronaldo, Robben, Van Bommel... the lot of them rather thuggish players). Therefore it should be a sordid and intense game. Perfect for a good laugh...

Psst Warspite, [thick French accent here] when the seagulls follow the trawler, it's because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea...
