Patch

Achtung Panzer:Operation Star is an Eastern Front wargame with solid graphics and sprawling battlefields that really emphasize the scope of WWII tank combat. The gameplay is a remarkably realistic turn-based and real-time operational/tactical hybrid wargame that continues the series begun by the acclaimed Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943.

This process ranks somewhere in between a root canal and a 7 hour car trip with the in-laws.

Grrrr. I did a fresh install as suggested by Ice then ran the 580 eng update and fired up the game. Still says version 5.77 so I didn't go any further.

O.K. Now this ranks somewhere between a 7 hour car trip with the in-laws and your wife and an ex girlfriend becoming good friends.

did you install the may patch right after the 580. The update window popped up for me right after running the 580 and i went right into installing the may patch, then save and play. I was told by flashburn over at graviteam the patch is the content.
here's the link.

I got it installed. Silly me. It was installing to my Achtung Panzer folder in my Program Files folder when the game is actually in C/Matrix Games/Achtung Panzer by default.

Thanks for the help everyone.

I also got it to install just by accident seconds before I was going to pull the plug and uninstall everything. I found a GAMES folder that I had created sometime in the past on the C drive, not under programs. I found a game file in there and I aimed the update 580 install at it and everything worked....????????go figure[&:]

Hey budd, which folder(s) did you extract the missing d3dx9_43.dll to? Thanks!

Many thanks! [&o] I didn't notice the installer amidst those dozens of files.

OK, so I ran the Direct X installer, fired up the game and this time got some sound before getting the critical error 002 crash again. Decided to uninstalled & reinstall. With great trepidation I started the unpatched game and it worked! Then I carefully added the patches and lo and behold, I think we're up and running on version 580! [8D] Added the DLCs and they too appeared in the campaign list. I dare not push my luck any further. [:)]

Between the totally inadequate documentation, the rubik's cube patching procedure, and sporadic in-game crashes, you have to really LOVE this game to put up with it! And I do. [:D]

I think I know what happened. I did what you said but it didn't work. I had moved the main install files (the big ones) to a new folder...
