The first Imperial carrier sighting in a long time! Alas, there is no trace remaining of the sighting to advise us whether she was northbound or southbound. Hopefully she is bound for Japan. Wasp is the only active USN carrier, now about 2 or 3 days out of Pearl Harbor. The other 5 are all in SF area ship yards getting refits and it will be all of a month before they are back in Hawaiian waters.

The highlighted hex is where the attack on Shokaku took place.

I checked the IJN upgrade schedules - Zuikaku and Shokaku have a 21-day upgrade in June. The timing suggests Shokaku just finished her upgrade and is steaming for Truk.
The other 4 big CVs + Ryujo can upgrade in July.

The situation at Liuchow gets more worrisome as the Empire's troops continue to pour into the city. All retreat paths are now cut off, although a withdrawal (aka not a 2-1 combat retreat) is an option. Forces from and passing through Kweilin will do their best to open a path.

The 70th British Division, with elite experience and a good aggressive combat leader (I replaced the original one) performed poorly throughout. Hopefully they lend more to the liberation of Cox's Bazar.

Here is a look at the Tennant Creek area. Allied armor will attack on the road south of Tennant Creek tomorrow. Air attacks should have slowed down the Imperials enough to allow the attack, and supplies should be high enough for a good attack, and tomorrow's air attacks should make enough difference to evict them... damn, that's a lot of shoulds!

The expected air combat today, but nothing earth shaking. A lone group of Anns attacked Imphal without escort and paid with 5 of their own. The IJA unit between Kweilin and Liuchow is the 30th Infantry Regiment and will be expelled tomorrow. In Liuchow the odds are with us 693 to 1313 but I'll bet the Empire's supply situation is better.

Recon of Carnavon (with 9/10 DL) gives the impression that the Empire has abandoned the base. Likely all of the locals radio equipment was destroyed or they would have reported the matter.

As I recall, 70th British Div. comes on the map with most of its infantry missing - it has lots of engineers and support troops but low AV. It will not be able to fight like a full division for a long time.

Only 9 aircraft were destroyed. Disruption is high among base personnel. The infantry and armor is fine (single digits). The base itself is at PD:0%, ASD:33%, ARD:47%, so CAP will still operate. Many planes are damaged, but plenty are available for CAP. Those 6" guns in the fortress did not fire at all it seems; at least they didn't hit a darn thing. I'll have to look for more to bring in. There was no corresponding air assault.

So, was this done to hit our strong fighter concentration, or as a prelude to an invasion that we sort of hoped would hit Chittagong? The Intel gained during the bombardment would probably cancel any landing plans for that locale.

The Imperials have arrived in force at Myitkyina, and there will be a major beating of the Allies tomorrow or the day after.

Hopefully this tenuous victory will allow more Allied troops to escape the meat grinder. Just across the border in India the 70th British has arrived at Cox's Bazar. All units are ready and will attack tomorrow after an all out air assault. No IJN bombardment units are seen on search and hopefully there are none within range.

In Australia, our own attempts to out flank and trap the IJA force at Tennant Creek has been (briefly) thwarted by the discovery of an unidentified Imperial unit on the road 92mi east of Tennant Creek. Our recce unit stopped short when confronted and will await a stronger unit coming in from across the plain. Air recon and tactical bombers will also have a look at the enemy. More on Australia tomorrow.

The damage done to the retreated Imperial forces was less than hoped. At Cox's Bazar, the attack went well. Follow-through will have to wait as an IJN battleship group has been seen approaching the scene, although it might be heading for another shot at Chittagong's tempting airfield. Chittagong stands at PD:0%, ASD:33%, ARD:4%. Notably there was no air support for today's attack At Cox's Bazar as extreme overcast blanketed the target areas.

DAW has 2 more units at his immediate disposal to send into GR80,54 (they are in the forest to the SE). Combined with air power they likely will tip the scales. Over at GR81,53 we have ordered a recon bombardment for tomorrow. Quite recently we evicted infiltrators from that spot, and just in the nick of time. Perhaps we can do it again, but surely would have failed had the entire Imperial host been on the scene.

No bombardment TFs seen so another attack will follow tomorrow. The Imperials have been on the move so hopefully they will still be around to be defeated and retreated for maximum damage.

Wow, for July 1942, this is just about the bloodiest ground war I have seen in awhile.  Many Japanese mothers cry themselves to sleep these nights, as the IJA throws men into the roaring fires of the cauldron of war. 
 
Have you noticed any faltering in his IJA units?  Are these casualties having any adverse effect that you can discern?
 
Nice job of turning the tide in central Oz.  Soon enough your going to start pushing back in a big way there.  I would not tarry long and allow a fortification of Daly Waters.  Perhaps you can purse a bit and damage the retreating units even further.
