KV Tanks not used

September 42, the tank battalions just ugraded to regiments. Did I just not notice that no units use them yet?

Is there a specific SU that would utilize them that you're simply not making?
I don't know the TOEs of the various SUs off hand, but there was a thread that detailed many, if not all, of them with screen shots.

The various TOEs of units would be a nice thing for an addendum to the manual, or if you could at least see the TOE before you built the unit (maybe you can and I just don't know how).

I *think* you need Heavy Tank SUs for the KV-85.

Just checked and see I have 5 HTRs with that tank.

Tank Battalions and Tank Brigades use some Heavy Tanks, so you must not have built many Tank Bns and used most of your Tank Bdes to build up Tank Corps. The Tank Regiments don't use Heavy Tanks. You'll need to build Heavy Tank Regiments to use more of the Heavy Tanks produced.

On Turn 64, 95 Separate tank battalions had 20 Lt, 11 med and 5 Hvy tanks.

When they "ugraded" to 1942 Separate Tank Regiments, the TOE changed to 16 Lt and 23 Medium tanks.

All versions of the KV were sent back to the pool, there to stay I presume until Heavy Tank SU's are available.

in the earlier screen shot it indicates taht my tank brigades aren't using KVs either. None are Guards. Guards Tank Corps aren't using them.

Heavy Tank Regiments ( ordered from scratch, not tank battalions that upgrade to regiments ) in late 1942 use 21 KV-1S. The first TOE for mech corps use 5 KV-1S.

Further news. When Heavy Tank Regiment SU's become available in October 1942, their TOE will only accept KV-1 1942 model. The 2500 or so KV-1 1941 model will likley stay unusable in the pool forever. Lesson: Do not sweat evacuating entire KV factories. You only need to ensure you be back at full production by October 1942.

Hmm, I always thought there was a fallback mechanism to an older tank of the same class if the requested type is not available in sufficient numbers.

I will build a bunch SU's which cannot be filled by KV 1942 models and see what happens. That would be good if there the production plan will dig into the older models.

Maybe it's not kicking-in fast enough if the current model is still in production or does not kick-in at all if the old model is eligible for scrapping?

I don't think it is the case. The swap-out won't happen if

unit is not in refit mode
or
it is adjacent to the enemy
or
pool of element to be swapped it 5x higher then requirement set by OB
or
current element is out of production (i.e. past Dec 1 of the last year) and pool is 1/2 of the requirement set by OB

There is no visible restrictions to the element unit is swapping to. Just high enough pool values.

I think it must be WAD, because on the Axis side this happens with many tanks as the OOBs upgrade, as the (rather countless) discussions regarding that topic posted by Axis players have stated.

I made a dozen Heavy Tank Regiment SU's and the game engine dug into the KV1 1941 pool to fill them as the 1942 pool was dry.
