Run Faster/Load Faster

Post by Champagne »

What's the best way to get the turns to load faster? I have a high end computer and graphics card, but the largest scenarios still take a long time for the turns to load.

I'm not sure I can help. What kind of times are we talking about, and which scenario? Some of the scenarios are on 2km maps and have a lot of units, so they tend to take longer to load.

Thanks

Prokhorovka is the battle scenario. It's probably the largest or close to it.

If there is no way to make the turns load faster on my high end computer, I will just stick to smaller scenarios. Bigger is not always better.

What do you think, Rick? Any ideas in speeding up loading times? Turns seem to take a few minutes to load up.

Champagne,

I ran through the first few turns of Prokhorovka. When you refer to loading, do you mean the time where the games shows some game tips and historical note and as a progress bar that says .... Loading Database.....Loading Units.....etc? This took about 1 minute on my system to load a saved turn.

Or are you referring to the time period after press play, for the AI Planning ....Simulating turn... period. This too 30-45 sec for the first few couple of turns on my system.

The AI planning and Simulating turn will vary as more units arrive for the AI.

My system is a core 2 I3 CPU at 2.9Mhz with 4 GB Ram and dedicated 1 GB video card.

I dont know that you can appreciably affect these load times with any of the settings, though I could be wrong.

Thanks
rick

Rick: thanks for the help.

I'm talking about the "time period after press play, for the AI Planning ....Simulating turn..". Yes, for the first handful of turns, it loads quickly enough. However, once the full crew come on board, it's too much and load times too long.

If there's no way for me to increase the speed of these load times, I guess I'll play smaller scenarios.

My system:

CyberPower Computer specs
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5
CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-990X processor, 6 cores
Memory: 24 GB
Video Card: GeForce GTX 590
SSD: Corsair Force Series 3 SSD 240GB
Regular HD: 2 TB
Case: Sniper Black Edition
Power Supply: Commander 1200 Watts
Sound Card: Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi
Monitor: ViewSonic
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

I haven't played through to the later turns for that scenario in a long time. I imagine there are a lot more Soviet units being managed in the later turns then.

I can't think of any way to increase the computation speed.

Thanks

You can gain some by using a program like End-It-All-2.
You can close programs not needed at the time.
I have a fast machine, but the calculations of this latest game engine can be slow.

My system.

Back in PCK days on my old XP machine it seemed like things processed faster when the game was minimized by pressing the Windows key.

I still use the xp box for email and surfing the net. The dual core is for games and development only. So I can check the net on one while the other is processing.
