New units never in supply?

The development team behind the award-winning games Decisive Campaigns: From Warsaw To Paris and Advanced Tactics is back with a new and improved game engine that focuses on the decisive year and theater of World War II! Decisive Campaigns: Case Blue simulates the German drive to Stalingrad and into the Caucasus of the summer of 1942, as well as its May preludes (2nd Kharkov offensive, Operation Trappenjagd) and also the Soviet winter counter-offensive (Operation Uranus) that ended with the encirclement of 6th Army in Stalingrad and the destruction of the axis minor armies. With many improvements including the PBEM++ system, this is a release to watch for wargamers!

New units never in supply?

Post by dmixer »

I created several Panzer divisions... attached them to HQs.. and they sat there the rest of the game out of supply. They are right next to their HQ, supply lines are good, but the Panzers never got above 0%.

What is going on!?!?

Supply in Case Blue comes from STAVKA or OKH, unlike in Warsaw to Paris where it went to subordinate HQ's first, so check the range to the OKH in this case.

Also make sure the HQs are attached to higher HQ if you created new HQ units as well.

Did these new units receive any replacements? They start out as empty shells with no troops or vehicles. If they did not receive any replacements then they will not request any supply.
Here is some information from my post in another thread :
Create new units or sub-units

Whilst it is possible to create new units, do not expect to be able to create lots of new full strength divisions.

Using your Political Points, you can create any type of unit from a Corps HQ to a Panzer Battalion. However when you create the new unit, it arrives as an empty shell. This means it has no troops or vehicles assigned to it.
Reinforcements will hopefully arrive at the start of the next turn to fill out the unit's ranks. However given that even on the best turns you barely get a couple of hundred infantry replacements or a handful of tanks, it would take a very long time to get a new division up to strength.
Also bear in mind any replacements diverted to a new unit do not go to meet the needs of your frontline troops.

It is possible to increase specific categories of replacements e.g. infantry or Panzers by using your Political Points to play Regime Cards which allow you to request additional reinforcements from OKW.

So it is not really practical to create whole new divisions. However more useful is the ability to replace destroyed regiments from within a division. These also arrive as an empty shell but because they are smaller, they are easier to build up to strength.

Vic then added the following :
Only thing I can add is that the player can set a specific unit of HQ (and thus all subordinate units of that HQ) to get priority in receiving replacements. If you only set a few units to 'priority' you will be assured they'll get the maximum number of replacements troops they can handle. But even then it can take up to a month for a unit build up from scratch to be fully operational.

Hope that helps.

I tried this out and created some new divisional units. They started to receive replacements on the next turn but it takes a while and they build up very slowly, as they should. Quite realistic IMO.

as i understand this, creating new units is foremost to replace lost units. for the german player replacements tend to be low, more so in the longer campaigns. if you create a new Panzer Bat. it means that the replacements go into the new units instead of filling up losses of the frontline units. i guess that the new units also have lower experience. i only used this option once after losing one of my armored spearheads.

in the Case Blue campaign it also helps to create Army level HQ for axis minors. The minors ask to have their units commanded by their own army level hq. but some of them do not have any army level hq, so i created one for the Romanians. i do not know if you can promote an existing HQ to do this.

Yes, that would make sense - new units will probably eat up your replacements. Good point.
