China
Wooded hex east of Sian our brave Chinese troops are moving to a new hex that has just been occupied by a Jap unit.  Yesterday they were attacked by 2 Jap IDs and inflicted 4k worth of casualities.  I expect heavy loses on both sides when they cross the river to move into the other hex.

Formosa
One of our subs attacks an AK on the surface and gets mauled by it.

Chang Mai
B 17s hit the AF for 32 hits.

Maloelap
DDs and DMS come in and attack our PT boats, 2 of them are sunk.  Lots of red TFs around this area.  Getting close to having our fighter up to strength.

Wotje
AK is sunk my a sub on the surface the AK put 5 hits on the sub.

Roi Namur
3 old BBs are heading into bombard.  I am wishing them luck and good shooting.

Kurlies and Aluetins
CVE Taiyo was spotted by Tuna who had to chances at her.  Adak is on full alert.

Our CVs were heading towards the Marshalls are now moving a little further north just in case Taiyo is bringing in an invasion force.

Bloody Turn

12th Sept

KB unknown
MKB Off Burm coast
NCV TF unknown

Akyab
We sweep the wooded hex with a Jap LCU stack. Hurri's don't do much. Bombers go in unescorted and get slaughtered.

Hengyang
We sweep the open hex to the south, again Hurri IIc's dont do much. Bombers didn't stand a chance.

Sian
Wooded hex to the east. Japs delib attack and lose 3,100 to my 1,000.

Burma Coast
MKB sighted heading NW. It looks like it might be heading to Madras. I am thinking of moving AC to Ceylon to blunt a raid and maybe counter attack the MKB.

Rangoon
Troops are reported to be heading here. I guess thats why the MKB is here.

Roi Namur
SAG runs into a troop convoy. Oklahoma and DD sommence to whoop some butt. 3 AMC's and an AP are sunk. AMC and a DD are on fire. 5,000 Japs drown. Screenie below. Or bombardment TF didn't bombard. More below on that. I might just have to bite the bullet and invade.

Wotje
SAG's sweep the PT boats aside. 6 PT boats are sunk. BB SAG bombard taking out 5 Wildcats and damaging everything, killing 97 troops. Now Koniu has 5 BB's without ammo and I have 3 old BBs 1 hex away with ammo. I think I will go after them. Helens come in during the day. Runway damage is 57

Maloelap
DMS's try to sweep the mine field one catches a CD shell and is on fire.

NorPac
No sign of the Taiyo.

Air loses for the day
18 Oscars, 5 Jakes, 2 Nells, 2 Sallys, and a Tojo. Ours 9 Hudsons, 8 Hurri IIc's, 7 B 25's, 6 B 26's, 5 Blenheim's, 5 Wildcats, and 2 Wellingtons.

Borneo
We hit a fully loaded tanker. It had heavy fires when the sub last saw it. Fuel cargo was burning. Good bye. With the fall of Ambon, more subs are on the prowl. I had 10 subs transporting supplies now they are moving to their hunting grounds.

Cocos Island
Koniu bombards not much damage. I am in the process of moving in a CD unit, and BDE. I am thinking of pulling in one of the British Armor BDE's. I know Koniu will come after it and can take it if he wants but I want to give him a good fight.

Maloelap
Japs sweep then bomb the island. We lose 5 planes. Now both AFs are closed down. HMMM what do I do now?

Roi Namur
Intel shows 4 units with 11,220 men. I did some looking and think that the 2 original units plus Wake CD gun unit and a mixed inf bde are on the island. I wonder how tough this island will be to take. I have a Marine ID and Marine tank bn fully prepped. I have an IR prepping but its low prep. I wonder how hard if I will need to bring in more troops? I can't attack the island from the air.

Any suggestions? Very much appreciated and needed. I am afraid of sending in an invasion TF. Due to not knowing where the KB is.

Using my rough rule of thumb, 30 men = 1 Assault Value,

Roi Namur with 11,220 men equates to about 374 Assault Value. That is not too far short of a division. Accordingly landing only a Marine division plus a tank battalion is not going to allow you to comfortably achieve a 2:1 final combat outcome. Particularly as your troops may suffer a 1 point disruption hit for each day on board the transports.

As you say you can't soften up the defences by preliminary air bombardment, and it sounds like you are loathe to send in naval bombardment TFs to soften up the defences, you are left with only bringing in a much bigger hammer to the initial landing. Two divisions sounds about right.[:)]

The good news is that Roi Namur is seriously overstacked. That imposes a significant call on resupply efforts, necessitating regular convoys. Presumably you say you can't air attack the atoll because you don't have assets which reach. How about using those air assets to interdict at sea those ship convoys before they reach Roi Namur. Perhaps beef up your naval search efforts and hope they drop bombs on the supply ships.

In a sense it doesn't matter if your opponent becomes aware of your interest in Roi Namur because the size of his garrison will impose a severe cost on him even if you don't proceed to invade.

Yes, always head Master Yoda's comments.  I think he may be low on supplies.  In the last 3 days only 1 bombing mission.  My AFs are almost operational.  I seen a TF that was stated to have an AK and DD plus 4 other ships in.  Maybe a resupply TF.  a raiding party is going in tonite to hit it.

3 Days to report.  Not much going on in them.

17th Sept

KB unknown
MKB Burma area

China
Our troops leave the small fort constructed on the raod headed to Sian and cross the river attacking a BDE, causeing it to retreat.  Koniu bombs more Chinese cities.

Akyba
Tojos sweep 12 are taken out for 8 Hurri IIb's and 6 IIc's.  Not bad.

Palembang
Sub takes a few hits from ASW forces will retire for repairs.

Marshall Islands
Only one bombing mission flown in the last 3 days.  It did light damage.  Only 1 sweep in the last 3 days.  AFs are almost operational again.  Seen a 6 ship TF heading east which would of put it at Roi Namur on the 16th.  Small SAG will head to Roi Namur to see if anyone is home.  Most fighters are away recovering morale and new planes.  Working on bringing in some P40K's.  I am bringing in a 4 BB bombardment TF also.

China
Units are prepping for Changsha and our one hex away but still no movement.  The more he waits the stronger I get.  I have bought out a Chinese corp and it is moving to India to rebuild.  Once up to full strenght it will move into Burma and help fight the Japs.

Sian
Bombed

Rangoon
We bomb at night and shot down 6 Oscars.  No runway hits.  Will stand down for now.  Waiting for a US ID to arrived 12 day till it gets to Cape Town.  After that will think about moving down the trail by Akyab.

Cocos Island IO
Units are moving to staging areas.  1 CD unit, inf BDE and EAB are almost ready to be moved.  I am thinking about bringing in a tank destroyer Bn 2 Ghurka Bns and a tank Bn.  I would like to have a Divisons worth of AV, but I dont have the free AV or PPs to spare.  I am awaiting the arrival of some Catalina's.  I don't want to sail into a trap.

Northern Borneo
We miss a big tanker.  More subs are on their way.

Maleolap
US CM is sunk and an AP was damaged.  Both of these have been sitting at Maleolap's pierside repairing.  They didn't or won't make the run back home.  AF is almost open here and Wotje.  Fighter units are resting and acquireing more planes.

I count 400 fighters at 3 bases. Koniu has positioned alot of his AC in 3 bases.  I don't know how many fighter squadrons Koniu has but I want to spread them out some.  So another offensive in a different area is in the prepping phase.

Subs
Have not seen many recently.  One is 8 or so hexs west of PH, another is off San Fran but is being hunted by 3 ASW TFS and 2 ASW squadrons.  I just can't get a good attack on him.

Lexington is in the yard for 50 more days.  Saratoga will be in San Fran for 80 more days.

I will send a CM to Wotje next turn.  I want to make Koniu think twice about doing a bombardment again.  Maleolap has 195 mines with 2 ACMs.  So an ACM will be heading out also.  Fighters will return soon to either Wotje or Maleolap.  I am thinking of flying off a carrier squadron of F4F4s (36) to fly high CAP and to see what they can do.

Roi Namur has 40 mines in 2 mine fields now (thanks Alfred).  I will send another 2 subs to mine it next turn.  Lets hope Koniu hits a few of them.  I am also prepping another ID for Roi Namur again thanks Alfred.

Crackaces nice to see your still around, if you still read this AAR.

2 days to update I will lump them into one blurb.

20th and 21st of Sept

KB unknown
MKB unknown

China
I've seen a Jap unit moving around in no mans land above Nanning.  I am moving units to find it again and stop it.

Ceylon
AM's find and damage a Jap sub.

Indian Ocean
Jap CA SAG sinks 2 tankers.

Singers
E boats damage a fleet sub.

Kendri
B24s hit the AF and Port.   We destroy a Mavis and A6m3a on the ground.  We also hit a PB with a bomb.  Min damage to port and AF.  We will switch and attack Ambon tomorrow.

Dili
Hudsons LRs put a bomb on an AK.

Samulaki
We put 40 some hits on the runway.  Will attack again tomorrow.

Lugna
We have spotted a small TF moving here.  Nav attacks by B25s and B26s are ordered.

Marshall Islands
Nothing.  He must be out of supply or he thinks that if I don't have any fighters present he dosen't have to do anything.  I have a bombardment TF moving into postion 5 hexs south of Roi Namur tomorrow.

PH
Found 2 more subs lurking about 8 hexs or so from PH.  My ASW forces only waved at them as they sailed by.

We hit the port and AF.  Minimal damage to both, we do destroy 2 Vals on the ground.

Samulaki
We hit the AF again.  AF is closed down.  Going after it again.

Marshall Islands
Our bombardment group is attacked from the air.  California takes 2 TTs from Nells and then 2 more from a sub.  California sinks later in the day.  Fighters didn't fly because of storms.

PH
CM is sunk by a sub.  Koniu has his subs positioned outside my search range.

How do the upgrades for LCUs work?  For example; I want to upgrade and Indian ID.  If I click upgrade the Ind inf sections will be replaced by Ind Inf 42.  Will the Ind inf be upgraded to Ind inf 42 or stay the same?  ALFRED!!!!!!!!

Ok so fighters have returned to Maleolap and Wotje.  They are flying CAP over the bombardment TF.  I have also flew in an F4F4 naval squadron to sweep Roi Namur.  SBD's have also been flown in to attack an unknown TF heading towards our bombardment TF.  I doubt they will have fighter cover.  Bombers have also been flown in to attack Roi's AF.  I expect to lose some, but I think I will lose more in the long run by doing nothing.  I am hoping that he has moved out some of his AC now that he has seen my bombardment TF.

The sub that sank the Cali took a beating also.

I am sending another sub mine laying TF out to Palembang.

Bad Sync bug

Post by DOCUP »

23rd Sept

KB 414km east of Mili ? or is it the MKB not for sure.

Massive sync bug gave me a heart attack.  Made me throw out a pair of underwear and to drink.

Combat Replay showed a terrible turn for the allies.  My bombardment TF get chewed up by Nells.  CAP didn't really show up.  Then the KB showed up next to my carrier TF and again CAP didn't really show up and all ships were lost.  Oh god that was horrible to watch.  I have to say quitting wasn't the first thing on my mind it was, I'll have to wait to late 43 to fight.

But anyway lets get back to what I see with the turn.

Nanking
We bomb the port by nite and sink a ACM.

Cocos Island
Bombarded.

Samulaki
We hit the runway again and hard.

Marshall Islands
Not for sure thats were most of the sync happened but everything looks ok.

more later

Question guys. I know the KB can travel anywhere from 16 to 18 hexs depending on the Kaga.

I am kinda stuck here. I am thinking of moving my CVTF full speed to the NW. Intel shows the suspected KB moving NE.

I figure going NE he would catch me. Going NW I might just get out but he is between me and PH. Or I could do a crazy Ivan and head SE at full speed. and maybe end up in his lap or be in open ocean.

Why would KB catch your CVTF if you move them directly away at top speed? Are your carriers damaged?

Sorry if I'm out of touch, I just dropped in when I saw your sync bug title.

No damage to them.  I've heard that the KB can move 16 or 18 hexs depending on if the Kaga is present.  My TF can only move 13.  I am 8 hexs away If i move 13 hexs away and he does 18 that means hes only 3 hexs away.  If he guess right and is at flank speed.

Thanks witpqs for dropping in.

Did you bring along slow BBs or something? 13 per day at full speed sounds low.
