Bob&BTR don't even install

Post by LexD »

Hi!
I got Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, all patches applied, got BoB&BTR on CDs.
It doesn't even want to install.
When i do it from Autorun, and then click on "Install game" button, it says "Can't run Setup.exe".
When I run Setup manually - says Setup is incompatible with my version of Windows & that I should get 64-bit version of a program instead of 32-bit.
When I set Autorun.exe & Setup.exe as Win-95 or Win-98 programs through Right_Click->Property->Compatibility, same result
(again, whether I do it form Autorun or directly run Setup).
BTW - I'm doing it all as Admin - so, it isn't about privileges.

Can anybody help? [&o] Thanks in advance.
Sincerely yours, Dan.

Fairly sure if you've got the old talonsoft versions they will not run on 64 bit windows 7.

Yes. It's Talonsoft. But maybe it'll work w/DosBox?

Remember seeing somewhere that you can get dosbox to run windows 3.1,if you have the original 3.1 install disks,if not dosbox only runs dos programs.

Windows is DOS, or more correctly DOS is a part of windows OS (it sits under the GUI).
Dosbox will happily run early windows games. I run games like Across The Rhine and V for Victory which are from the Win 95 days on DB.

I played the old talonsoft version of BTR on Win XP, no probs, but I suspect 64 bit might be an issue.

Give Dosbox a try, you loose nothing if it doesn't work.

I've had the old talonsoft games running on xp but not 64 bit windows 7.The V for Victory games were dos games the last one came out in 1993 two years before win 95 and if I understand correctly Across the rhine was a dos/win 95 game which is why I think dos box runs them ok,but I could be wrong(it wouldn't be the first time.)

The problem seems to be an incompatible installer. IF you have access to another computer with WinXP (or a virtual system with an older OS) you might want to install it there and copy the files to your new computer.

On my Win7 x64 I'm able to play BTR although it was copied over from an older machine.
