Combat Report - 5/2/1942
-------------------------------------------------------
New Reader? Here's the highlights:
The Beginning (December 6, 1941)
Battle of Port Moresby (January 7-8, 1942)
Battle of the Timor Sea (January 10-17, 1942)
Battle of Espiritu Santo (April 6-15, 1942)

-------------------------------------------------------

In China, he is pouring troops into the Kwelein area. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see one of the divisions from Luzon show up here. I can't reinforce this front without weakening the area around Changsha. I can do that a little, but not much. I'm being stretched thin in Central China, so perhaps I should consider pulling some from up north where he has not done anything aggressive since December.

He attempted to bomb the Australian coast from Port Moresby. No enemy aircraft that crossed the Australian shoreline inbound survived to cross it outbound. Let's hope it stays that way. Meanwhile, he is trying to put a supply fleet through to PM and will succeed because I've got no real assets up here to interfere with it just yet.

Nothing happened of importance today except that he finished off a bunch of my P40 frames on the ground at Changsha. His troops in the hex SW of Changsha are blocking the rail line and preventing me from moving my damaged planes out. I'm going to have to move more aviation support in there somehow.

CV escorts still have 18 days to refit.

All is quiet.

USS Arizona is preparing to make the jump to the WC to complete her repairs. In 3 days, USS Nevada will complete her repairs and (if I recall correctly) be the first December 7th casualty to return to service. There will be pomp and ceremony followed by...at least 3 weeks of upgrades.

Shooting for an invasion of Adak in June. I'll probably attack Ndeni in SOPAC by then as well. The ball, it must be a rollin'

[:(] We just realized that I hadn't actually emailed him the turn.

He thought I was ignoring his game in favor of John's [:D]

(Delayed because he sent me the wrong turn and it took a while to realize what was wrong)

BETTIES. With TORPEDOES. For shame.

He sunk half of a cargo fleet coming out of Rangoon. I've been trying to remember to put LRCAP on these fleets as they come in, but I forgot to put it on for this one. Lesson learned.

Deliberate attack at Soerabaja nearly succeeded. My troops there are about as weak as it gets, though we did disrupt him pretty good.

For some reason, he attempted a shock attack at Ambon. I don't think he realizes that they still have plenty of food. I don't think he'll be attacking there again for a bit. [:D]

As for offensive plans, I'm twiddling my thumbs until this round of ship upgrades completes and my transport fleets get good and seaworthy before transporting the next wave of troops to SOPAC. Luganville is up to a level 4 airfield, so I may move some B17s out there for some training.

OH! It appears that I have blimps now. BLIMPS! Someone talk to me about how those are useful and not just fun to look at during halftime.

[:D] Only thing they can catch is a submarine, so put them on ASW patrol over or just outside your major ports on the WC - unless you can persuade your opponent to send a team for a little friendly football game ...

He attempted to take Soerabaja again. I'm surprised my guys were able to hold out, but they did well and heavily disrupted his troops again.

Three cheers for the crew of the SS-40 who torpedoed a PB escort for a cargo fleet, and then when the other escort caused critical damage requiring an emergency surface, the crew manned the deck gun and spread 6 shells between 3 merchants before being sunk, going down in a blaze of glory.

Not much happened. I bombarded Cocos Island with my British BBs, but it was mostly just to have something to do during "halftime" (the period of time between Japan's offensive is halted and the Allies get their own rolling).

SigInt shows 25th Division planning for Calcutta. I looked it up. They are a part of the 20th Army and would cost him almost 2000 PP to purchase. I believe we are each getting something like 50PP per turn, so it is possible that he bought them out, but I wouldn't say that it is likely.

On the same day that Yorktown and Hornet finished their upgrades in Pearl Harbor (they still have at least a week for their escorts to finish), Lexington and Saratoga have stood down for their upgrades in Almeda. Those upgrades will take at least a month.

Nothing much has been happening. My CVs at Pearl have finished repairing, but their escorts will be another 11 days at least. I'm using the time to upgrade the aircraft and fine tune the pilots.

My opponent is having severe internet issues AND he just got a job that will slow down the turns significantly. I will probably only be posting occasional updates to this AAR until some big action comes along.

Thanks for letting us know what is happening "off-map"!
You are doing more than your share for this forum so I, for one, will be very patient while waiting on updates of this AAR.
