XXXXII Corps should probably be shown as XLII

The development team behind the award-winning games Decisive Campaigns: From Warsaw To Paris and Advanced Tactics is back with a new and improved game engine that focuses on the decisive year and theater of World War II! Decisive Campaigns: Case Blue simulates the German drive to Stalingrad and into the Caucasus of the summer of 1942, as well as its May preludes (2nd Kharkov offensive, Operation Trappenjagd) and also the Soviet winter counter-offensive (Operation Uranus) that ended with the encirclement of 6th Army in Stalingrad and the destruction of the axis minor armies. With many improvements including the PBEM++ system, this is a release to watch for wargamers!

XXXXII Corps should probably be shown as XLII

Post by abulbulian »

Currently the XXXXII is displayed in the graphics on map and OOB as the XXXX Corps because of the limitations of the icon. I would suggest in following patch to rename it as XLII so that it can be at least displayed properly. Haven't checked, but guess more of these types of issues?

This raises a question for me that I've been wondering about -- can someone explain to me what "IL" and "IIL" corps is meant to represent? I assume it's a peculiarity of German notation (the way using "XXXX" for "XL" is), but I just can't figure out what "number" "IL" corresponds to? I believe in Warwaw to Paris, in the Gelb scenario, doesn't Schmidt command "IXL Corps" -- again, no idea what that means. Would love if someone knowledgeable can fill me in.

can someone explain to me what "IL"

I think it is meant to be 49. But that can't be, because I and V can only modify up to an X.

49 should be written XLIX - first resolve 40 as XL and then resolve 9 as IX!

The Germans use a slightly different form of the Roman numerials. For example XXXX for them is 40 whereas the western powers would use XL. IX is 9 so IL must be 49. Essentially, if the numerial to the left is smaller then the numerial on the right, subtract it.

I remember seeing a site on the interwebthingy explaining why the germans are different.

I think this is simple text entered by the creator and not auto-generated or something.. so you can change it but you'd have to manually edit the scenario and change each Roman numeral to Arabic.
