I'll be heading to San Diego tomorrow morning for a week. Any WiTP:AE die hards out there that would be interested in getting together? Would be great to meet up if possible. Drop me a PM if you can.

Cheers,

Sounds like you are really serious! I LIKE that! [:D] Torstein had been talking about coming out here , but backed off when I said I was planning an east coast trip when he was here. [:(]

Well, if Google Maps is to be believed the road from Chicago leads right through Omaha. But I may make a detour to Minnesota to beat Andre's @ss if he neglects to show up. [:D]

Are you taking interstate 80? That leads through Omaha. I'm 7-9 miles south in Bellevue. Are you planning a drive by , or taking a little time?[&:] There is a nearby museum or two , depending on your interest. Including the Strategic Air and space museum. [:)](and if you are train buff (like Mike, there are a bunch of train museums).

Didnt notice the name of the road but it seems to have been the big one I can only assume there is one such in Omaha. [:D]

Probably not a lengthy stay. But I would like to stop by long enough to buy you and the missus a refreshing beverage. [:D]

Just letting you know I live in San Diego. Don't have a phone # for you to call me though. Gonna be without one for a month or so, trying to get my kid through college. *sigh*

Lovely tour of the USS Midway and her excellent museum. Very enjoyable evening while there. A teaser though: a genuine plastic construction model of her built in 1943. You think Lego Yamato was tough-try putting 18 'anatomically correct' decks on her! [X(]

Midway model side and rear...

Remember that plastic was uncommon as a construction material in the 1940s...

Yeah, can't answer that one. Was in San Diego not too long ago, and kept trying to figure out what was up with that carrier. That picture makes things a lot clearer though.

wow, Chickenboy - those pics of plastic-model Midway are great!

obv, James Doohan was in their base, giving away Starfleet's 'transparent aluminum' secrets two decades earlier than the movies would have us beleive!

Went to google earth to check out the location. Two carriers tied up across the bay from the Midway I could make out 76 on one and it looked like 80 on the other but I don't think we have built her yet. The fun part is when I zoomed in to see her number better, she disappeared! The pic was replaced with one showing the piers empty.

A guess from back here in MN, I would say it is the USS Carl Vinson CVN-70.

Is the USS Nimitz still there? It should have pulled in on the Aug 9th.

It's the Carl Vinson.

Here's another visitor to the yards-she came in one night mid-week when I wasn't looking.

Spent 5 years at NASNI back in the '80s.

Just for the heck of it I still like to know "Where are the carriers".

Here's some comparative models of CV-1 vs. the to-be-built Gerald Ford. Note the magnetic catapult cutaways on the Ford. Also, the nose and rear view of F-35 variants on the right hand side of the Ford flight deck.
