here's the situation in Northern China, South of Ankang the enemy can now move back on the trail to Nanyang while the enemy division East of Ankang is cut off and will be entirely destroyed... we will hold the hex South of Ankang as well as the hex on the road South of Sian, both got excellent defensive terrain where the enemy can't even think about achieving something... there is enough in the Sian area that we can't see the Japanese having any chance to gain ground while he hasn't attempted to do so anyway... one single enemy bgd is sitting 90 miles East of Sian but there's nothing else in the area threatening our position...

preparing for operations in the area we start with an attack on Ambon to knock out the airfield... got several cruiser task forces in the area as well as some BB and our carriers of course... roughly 100 B-17 are stationed at Darwin together with 32 B-25C that can also join in... none of the bases in range seem to have any notable number of aircraft...

our Dutch defenders were kicked out of Langsa a while back but were able to retake Medan and now the enemy struggles to take back the base... Medan produces a nice amount of fuel so I wonder why there isn't even a single unit there nor seem there have been any convoys going to the base... all in all it doesn't seem Cuttlefish is emphasing on fuel transport back to Japan which seems odd... I have at least two dozen subs operating near bases that have refineries but the subs rarely encounter any convoys while I think Japan has to move out fuel 24/7...

while there is not much interesting going on, we had some interesting intel yesterday...

BB Nagato is moving to Balikpapan (64,97).

seems like the IJN is moving heavy units into the area...

here's the carrier strike... takes three days to launch a single strike and when the bombers go in, heavy rain means a pityful result... launching a strike of 360 aircraft in a combined strike is no problem, all those aircraft are coming from a single task force that includes all available fighters... date: 8/42... really think that ppl are giving to much thoughts about launching combined strikes...

milk run of my super 4E resulted in four bombers lost to ops today ("I can't shoot down more than 2 bombers with 300 fighters on Cap...") while the carrier based ac also suffered four lost to ops...

I noticed troops numbers at Lae going down constantly lately and the only reason for this could be evacuation... a squadron of P-40E flew LRCAP over the base yesterday engaging enemy transports (not a single one was shot down [8|]) so there had to be a base in the area those transports were coming from... all medium sized airfields in the area were reconned except Hollandia so I was sure the transports would be coming from there... the bombers do some nice damage on the field as well within the parked transports... Lae will be attacked soon, should not be any problem to take the base...

Hey -- what happened to the ground bombardments at Clark? Honestly, how are the men supposed to set their watches? [:D]
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

they come and go and if bombardments are on, it usually only hurts the one that is actually doing the bombardment [8D] I think Clark won't fall before 43.

and here dies another IJA division... the first one to be totally destroyed in China while we literally also whiped out two or three more divs plus two bgds due to retreats... kill ratio in China must be somewhere between 7-10:1 in favour of the Chinese so far, pretty uncommon but the way the Japanese were first advancing (and being kicked back in Northern China) and then defending (becoming cut off in Ankang) enabled the Chinese to achieve all this... what we do need in China now is supply... stocks are down to something like 110,000 tons of supply in total with all units fully supplied at the moment... means we have burnt roughly 140-150,000 tons of supplies since China was cut off from supply coming out of Burma... we are not building up any of our bases, there is no fighting on a larger scale, yet we burn through available supply in no time... that's really frightening as it means the Chinese can't even feed themselves without supply coming from Burma (LOTS of supply) and usually Burma shouldn't be liberated by sometime in 43... in this game I am sure we can take Burma back earlier and we already have a big Army marching into Burma out of Akyab, recon indicates some 40-50,000 enemy troops in Burma, probably two enemy divisions plus support spread out in bases like Rangoon, Magwe, Prome and Mandalay... I don't think the enemy will be able to hold Burma especially as there are still 6 enemy divisions occupied with Luzon, one is at the Allied POW camp of Bandoeng (Java) and the Allied are pushing into the SRA out of Australia already...

so the overall strategic situation at the moment should be favouring the Allied in Burma and if we take it back and got secure shipping lanes China will get the needed supplies again...

the BB SAG that is covering our amphib convoy that will be moving in the troops to Lautern (after the paras are going to take it) runs over an enemy sub... luckily the escorts were able to drive off the enemy bugger, the slow RN BB usually are torpedo magnets...

no damage done in the first round and then the sub even attacks one of the escorts but misses... the escorts are 100% useless as always... while I sure like a change to stock ASW, making ASW an impossible task seems a bit odd though... we haven't got a single enemy sub being confirmed sunk by ASW and we are closing in on September 1942... prepared a nice surprise for the daily bombings over Luzon as we've moved in 50 P-38E from Darwin and have put them on LRCAP over Clark... unfortunately only 17 fighters show up but still do some nice damage within the unescorted bombers... this should force Cuttlefish either to stop the bombings or provide a strong escort as we can repeat this kind of ambush at will, at least until we run out of P-38E as those are the only ones having the range to easily reach Bataan from Darwin using drop tanks while the P-38F isn't able to do so...

here's our shock attack on Lautern, the paras take the base on the first attempt... been close but there were no forts and the defender were disrupted... got 52 C-47 available which are just about enough to drop a whole bn of paras (minus the 3 squads of engineers) but there is not enough capacity to also drop any supplies it seems, my unit had 0 supplies when I looked at it (doubt that all of the supply would be eaten up from one attack)... I guess to effectively drop a bn of paras I need something like 80-90 C-47... more transports are coming in from the West Coast but this takes some time, we should be able to effectively use our three available USMC para units by the end of September...

really a great day! We expected CV Hiyo to be sunk due to two succesful attacks by our S-class subs around Manado but haven't had confirmation the carrier would be done. Today Japanese High Command admits the sinking of another IJN carrier, making it 4 CV, 2 CVL IJN losses for no Allied carriers lost. [8D]

as you can see below we have been constantly scoring more points than the enemy over the last couple of months and are nearly at 1:1 ratio again. When September comes around we will overtake the enemy in points and if nothing weird happens we should keep a positive ratio at least until our troops on Luzon will finally have to surrender. Don't know how much those troops are really worth in points but I guess we are speaking about 1000-1500.
