save the japanese cruiser Tone ~

Post by WO Katsuki »

Tone has struck a mine and is sitting in port at palembang with 33 major flood damage

i thought the AR akashi could be used to repair the flood damage but only pierside repair is available

1) AR Akashi is disbanded in port

2) palembang is a size 4 port

so the crew of Tone has spend the past month pumping water out of tone (33 major flood damage) but it cannot be repaired

if Tone sets sail, it probably will sink en route to japan

how can the Tone be repaired?

If you own Singapore, use it.The repairshipyard is big enough for Tone.

The Tone is not that bad of shape.

1. Place her in an Escort TF with ASW escorts (guard against those nasty Allies subs).
2. Set TF speed to Cruise (this will minimize additional damage).
3. Route the TF near friendly ports.
4. Monitor the Tone for additional accumulated damage.
5. Send the Tone to Singapore (repair facilities are large enough.

Cross your fingers.

the opponent has made a festung singapore, i own the rest of malaya except kuala lumpur (another festung)

basically i am bypassing the region and took sumatra, java, and borneo and prepping to take australia

means my troops are looking across the johore strait, and cannot cross (shock attack against his 45K troops would ruin the 4 or 5 IJA regiments)

it is February 21, 1942

i wonder if someone can explain the rules for repairing major flood damage

AR ships have no effect?
it is port size or repair yard size?
does an ARD help?

Then go for Soerabaja and expand the yard there a bit if needed.

You need a shipyard to repair major flood damage. (Big holes in steel ships need a drydock.)

33 flood damage is not critical. Reaching Japan should be no problem.

Create an Escort TF, including some ASW escorts.
Make sure to set the speed to cruise. (Faster sailing means more minor flooding)
Sail to Japan via a string of friendly ports. Occasionally go into pierside repair mode to pump out minor flood damage before continuing.

Alternatively you could wait in Palembang until you've taken Singapore. Which should be soon, unless you've diverted troops away from Malaya.

That damage isn't bad at all; with 0 ops damage, no way she founders. She could even take another torp and make it, IMO. Send it back to Japan with a good escort.
