Simplifying things - difference was muling. My army was almost destroyed by the end of 7th turn and I didn't recover since (my mistakes didn't help).


Other thing I noticed was Saper's quality CC. During initial summer and winter I won under 10% defensive battles many times despite good initial odds and commanders.
