AVOID STALINGRAD

The development team behind the award-winning games Decisive Campaigns: From Warsaw To Paris and Advanced Tactics is back with a new and improved game engine that focuses on the decisive year and theater of World War II! Decisive Campaigns: Case Blue simulates the German drive to Stalingrad and into the Caucasus of the summer of 1942, as well as its May preludes (2nd Kharkov offensive, Operation Trappenjagd) and also the Soviet winter counter-offensive (Operation Uranus) that ended with the encirclement of 6th Army in Stalingrad and the destruction of the axis minor armies. With many improvements including the PBEM++ system, this is a release to watch for wargamers!

AVOID STALINGRAD

Post by rominet »

Played by an other french player on URANUS scenario.

He paid the 300 PP to try to avoid to have to keep Stalingrad.
But he has been stacked because the card doesn't work like that.
In fact, it seems this card is only interesting when germans are on offensive and have Stalingrad as major objective.
So in URANUS, when Stalingrad is already in german hands, it is not correct and should be fixed i think.

Even if it works, the Axis should abandon Stalingrad as soon as possible in Op. Uranus.

I see. I made a note that this could indeed be improved. I am thinking of making the cards unavailable if the town in question is already held by you.

I think we need some major penalties for abandoning Stalingrad in any scenario.

The player is a senior army commander, not Hitler or Stalin, and the game already includes a dismissal concept. A senior officer on either side who had historically abandoned Stalingrad prematurely (or at all) would certainly have been dismissed or shot and so it should be in the game - abandon Stalingrad and you lose instantly.

So, both players should have a minimum stacking level that they must maintain within n hexes of the Stalingrad VP. This would simulate the intense fighting that took place for this iconic objective.

Any scenario that does not treat Stalingrad as an absolutely vital political/logistical objective for both sides is a fantasy variant.
