The best B-17 killer

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

The best B-17 killer

Post by cohimbra »

Hi to all WWII aviators, in my experience the best way to shot down a great
numbers of B-17 is the massive use of the Bf110G-2/R3:

For example this squadron shot down 16 B-17 without losses in a single
turn. Is the Bf110G-2/R3 the best fighter to do this? Any suggestion?

If the escort is poor, then yes.

If you are playing aginst the AI that is probably the case as I find the AI tends to do better at running the defence rather than the offence.
The Bf-110 dies like flies against allied fighters so against a human who escorts their raids properly you may get a few kills at first, but would ultimately loose most of your squadron.

Edit, the Rocket armed A/C will disperse the bombers and produce a lot of stagglers, making future kills easier, so a quick pass followed by recalling the 110s may ultimately be effective in assisting other forces

Agree with Dobey on this. As an Allied player vs Germans, I never have problems with Bf-110 or 410 - in fact with properly escorted raids the 410 morale gets very low very fast and they 'break off' their attacks (much to my annoyance as I kill so many!).

Yes, I play against AI...not perfect, but I think it's pretty good.
I tend to mount Rocket on FW190F model, but I'll try both cannons/rockets
mounted on Bf110G-2/R3 and see what happend.

I'm sorry to hear that, I'll have to revise my 'strategies'.
Right now I thought I had understood something!

Thanks to both
