Update issue

Post by pontiouspilot »

As the vets here pointed out in the capture of BB Alabama I am operating under an ancient version. When I started I thought I updated. I now again downloded the most recent version but now there seems to issue with startup...the update fine print talks about possible expired serial number. Anybody know the fix to this???

One damm thing after another!!

Could you post some details, maybe a screen-shot of the message you are getting?

I'm not getting any particular screen shot. On the install wizard the downloaded update is clearly on computer as the correct new version number shows up in corner of install screen. For some reason it simply won't open and the new update does not appear in the older existing version on computer ie. hasn't patched into existing version.

I noticed in the fine print of update install wizard some mention that original password may not work on updates depending on timing. Could that be problem? Should I delete the old existing versions and reload all from scratch? The problem with the latter is I will lose existing game and won't get a chance to sink the captured BB Alabama!!

Thanks for all the help! I'm not that great a computer techie.

Is it starting, or is it hanging on start up?

You may need to download the patch and manually install it.

It downloaded into my "download file". I know the files are there as is says it downloaded yesterday's date etc. When I open it goes to "Welcome.....to installer for the updated edition...correct number" etc. Several steps into this set-up wizard it asks for serial number etc...I watch it download files....after that nothing, it hasn't overwritten on pre-existing game. Dammed if I know how to make it do it manually!! Any advice appreciated!

Did you enter your serial number? Did you include the hyphens?

Bullwinkle....yes I did sir, hyphens and all. After this I saw the items downloading...BUT there is something in fine print about ser # sometimes becoming outdated depending on timing of update versus original install: "Please note that if your original installer was created after this update installer, your serial number may not work with this update." This can be read to mean several things.

Hmm. I'd interpret that to mean you bought the game/downloaded the game after the burn date on the final patch. But it is confusing wording. Sounds like a job for Tech Support. If you can't get through there Erik Ruitins at Matrix has been very good about untangling things like this.

Just for future reference can you describe what was up? What was the meaning of that phrase you were seeing?

Bullwinkle...the IT guy said the update downloaded into a different directory and to be moved. It was NOT any types of issue with stale serial number.

OK. Gotta point at the right folder. [:)]

Look over the update notes and the two addenda PDFs. I did today and refreshed my memory at the really amazing number of improvements (some very big), interface tweaks, and data base changes which the stock game got.
