Playing today and ..

Post by wodin »

Been playing around yesterday and today and I have to say it's a great wargame. they nail the historical aspect.

Sadly I have no idea what I'm doing..played the tutorial but my lack of Rome knowledge is telling..

I've tried a few AGEOD games and this for me shines more than the others.

So wodin how do you like it so far? And do you have any other AGEOD games? I'm looking at the American Civil War game and WW1 gold as well.

Love it..when the expansions come out I see it as the ultimate Rome wargame. I have played a few of their titles. This is the best AGE engine game I've played.

WW1 Gold is my favourite game but thats because of my obsession with WW1. I think AJE is probably more accessible than WW1Gold.

Just got it today myself. I am floored at how good it is. [&o] Extremely detailed units. Love the little history bios on the officer units. The map is simply the best I've seen in the AGE engine. Huge with all kinds of infomation, economics, choke points for battles etc. Terrain which does indeed affect battles etc. Just beautiful! I'm already thinking of expansions I'd like to get with this game, Punic Wars here I come.

I got it yesterday and just have to say it is very nice! The map is nice, the terrain works very well as both a conduit for advances and a means of setting up defensive positions. It is typical of other AGE based games, movement and combat mechanics are essentially the same,, but there have been a few new items that are unique to the Roman era that have been thrown in (i.e. legions can build their own seige engines). Importantly, the game has atmosphere, which is very difficult to capture in a war game.

I give it a thumbs up for anyone interested in the period.

If I did understand well Erik (in an email of his), he is ok that the AARs published at Ageod are put there too, either in links or better as full copies.

I won't link it here, but there is a very good AAR over at Paradox forums that was a pre-release PBEM AAR that was started about a week before the early release to pre-buyers.

It has Narwhal going against Loki again in I can't even begin to count how many times they have done PBEM AARs on Ageod games.
