We have intercepted some transmissions from a fragment (signifying it is already on a ship) of the 4th Division indicating their next target is Noumea. We have the Americal Division arriving there shortly and that should help bolster the defenses there.

The carriers have moved that way to be half way between Port Moresby and Noumea to be able to respond either direction.

Otherwise, mostly quiet, nothing major going on. Our subs are getting either signings, ASW attacks on them or Duds. Lots of activity there.

CONUS:

20th PB/79th PS withdrawn – Pilots stripped beforehand

SS Greenling sent to Cristobal, LCDR Bruton has sufficient Naval/Aggressive skills for a sub captain and is not replaced.

xAK Admiral Day moved from Cristobal to Balboa

SS Grampus at Balboa sent to Pearl Harbor, LCDR Hutchinson does not have sufficient Aggressiveness (34) for sub patrols. LCDr Ferrall (Nav72/Aggress72) put in command for 3 PPs.

TF91 Cargo with 92670 supply sent to Sydney from LA. Set on a more northerly route near Palmyra as there appears to be no Japanese activity in this area. It will shorten the route a little.

8th PB/35th PS sent to San Francisco from Eastern USA for deployment to Australia. Pilots maxed, Escort training at 100, range 0

3rd BG has assembled at San Francisco and will be shipping out as soon as I can assemble a sufficient convoy of two ships for each Squadron and an escort for Sydney.

Downgraded VP-43 at San Diego to PBY-5As to put some better PBY-5s in service for deploying where the range will matter. This will also give better ASW coverage in the SOCAL area. Win-Win, I say!

PEARL HARBOR:

xAP Rochambeau put into the shipyard for a week of repairs after her trip from the Philippines.

Sub Finback was just sitting at 189,107. Moved her to PH for refuel and new patrol area closer to the action.

BBs California and Tennessee are one day out of PH for their refits.

TF179 at Townsville is still unloading supplies, should be done on 9 FEB and ready to load back up as an amphib TF to move 114th BF to PM. It has been set to have PM as its objective.

Going to send 10k supplies to Noumea from Pago Pago with an AGP to setup a PT base there. The fleet will have the “PT Boats” in the cargo and assemble them in Noumea. This is splitting off 4x3200 cargo ships from TF392 on its way back to LA. Four days from Pago Pago. It can then pick up 12,200 supplies and the AGP and go 11 days back to Noumea to establish a PT presence at Noumea. We might have to setup PT squadrons at Koumac and La Foa also, but will see how things go.
TF277 is taking 1750 supply to Luganville from Pago Pago.

CHINA:

8th New Chinese Corps is planning for Ankang and moving to Kienko from Chungking, then on to Ankang for a blocking action expected at Ankang.

Started expanding Sian’s Airfield to level 2 to better handle the AVG aircraft. There is now V60 at Sian.

CENPAC:

DD Perkins is sent back to Tahiti to prepare to bring another two BBs back to Pearl in a month or so as the California and Tennessee are finishing their refits or if we determine the threat level is such that we can bring more back quicker.

At Midway transferred the xAK SiKiang to the once Tanker now Cargo TF there unloading for the return trip to PH where she can be repaired.

CONUS/PANAMA:

Need Destination for 175th USAAF BF, 2nd USMC FA, and 428th Cst AA at San Fran.

APD Little and an xAK moved from Christobal to Balboa for inclusion into a TF bound for LA.

SOPAC/NOPAC:

Nothing going on here for logistics that isn't already in place.

CHINA:

Moving the 18th Group Army from Yenan to Sian. This will take some time, but it should help with the defenses. Does not appear the Japanese are moving in the North China areas, yet…

A dozen or more “new” units for the Chinese in the next 30 days. These will deploy to the areas of concentration of the Japanese, which is mostly towards Sian, right now. May send some towards Ichang to maybe tip the balance there.
The 350 squad replacements per month are being used as fast as they are arriving.

Both AVG squadrons are fairly low in fatigue (<25) and high in morale (>70), all their aircraft are fully serviced and ready to go, just waiting on the Japanese to attack! They didn’t the last turn. Both are racking up kills 11/20, and I think the Japanese are rethinking what they are doing. Which is what we want!

This should not be done right now as there is what appears to be a SCTF rounding Horn Is. in an eastward direction. We should see what happens with it, first. Maybe move the carriers towards it, but keeping them more than fourteen hexes from Rabaul.

Time for an update on my AOR.

Burma
Weather has been bad for the past couple of weeks (Thunderstorms), so no air action. Japanese have taken Buma and are not advancing into Burma. Currently have an Armored Regt as a picket SE of Prome and a force at Toungoo, with the remainder of the forces hammered at Rangoon moving back north to recover at Shwebo.

Jap CVs, SAG, AOs w/ an invasion force moving up the west coast of the Malay Peninsula. Objectives could be Port Blair or Chittagong. Have a force with the two Bdes of the 17th Div at Dimapur that can be diverted to defend Chittagong. Will evaulate after next turn as it wmay become clearer where they are going. The British Naval force near Port Blair are withdrawing to Columbo.

DEI
Quiet other than operations in Southern Sumatra. After they took Praboemoelih, looks like they will mop up the rest of the resistance quickly. I cannot reinforce (nor want to) and can only evacuate key HQs like ABDA. The 224th RAF should complete thier evacuation this turn, and the Mariner Bn at Oosthaven should finish being moved to the Cocos Islands in the next few turns. Have a number of B-17 squadrons preparing for Ops at Batavia next turn.

India
Defense preparations continue at Ranchi (AF and forts), Rangpur(forts), Tezpur(forts) and Calcutta(forts). Light an significant AV with the only Divisions being the 18th Brit Div at Bombay which is currently training/receiving replacements at Bombay currently. The next Australian Div to arrive at Aden is slated for India as the other Aussie Div is enroute to Australia.

Australia
Established a defense at Alice Springs of a couple Cav Regts and a Tank Attack Regt. Don't expect a full blown drive there, but enough to augment the forces already in NW Australia if driven back that far. Improving the AF (currently at 2) to improve ability to operate B-17s there. They are currently harassing the Jap Armored Regts pursuing the remnants of the retreating Darwin garrison near Daly Waters.

Looks like a bombardment group is enroute to ht PM. Evacuated the shipping there and moved 39th PS (21 P-39s) to Townsville as a precaution as there is no need to needlessly lose airframes. An Aussie SAG was moved to be 8 hexes away and ready to intercept, but they refueled so don't have enough ops points to intercept . Need to be watch the refuel status, as the short legged La Triomphant is the main culprit of causing the refuel.

GENERAL NOTES:

xAP Dominion Monarch is past due for withdrawal and is in TF115 bound for Aden. She is costing us 20PP a day for 180PP so far. Do we need her right now or can we release her?

xAP Queen Elizabeth is due to withdraw in 67 days. I don’t expect her to be used during that time as we have enough lift for the units we are expecting from CONUS during this time period. But, we don’t get any extra PP to withdraw her early. So, I will sit on her for now and see what happens.

SOVIET:

More pilots graduated from flight school, so I filled out more trainees into squadrons for more training. It is going to take a few more months before squadrons are full of pilots.

247th Rife Bde arrived at Voroshilov and is set to rest and receive replacements.

CONUS:

Released 32 P38s using both P43s and P39Ds in Eastern USA. The airframes should be available shortly to make our “flying circus” of P38s.

CENTPAC:

Two experienced NavS pilots added to 5th BG/72nd BS at Pearl Harbor for naval search duties. One was lost this last turn due to a landing accident. This unit is two planes short with none in the pool; need to keep an eye on the B-18A airframes.

Split TF 316 into two TFs, one with troop transports and fast AKs to go to SF for troop movements, the rest, and the slow xAKs will continue onto LA for use as general cargo ships. The transport TF will speed up to 4 and be in SF in 9 days, while the other TF will continue at speed 3 and be in LA in just over 13 days.

SOPAC:

Coastwatcher reports have the Japanese TFs moving west of Horn Is. So, TF179 is changed to Amphib and loading the now combat formation 114 USAF BF for movement to PM. Give it a day or two to start moving and we can send the carriers over to escort it up.

TF216 split off of TF99 bound for Suva with the 135th BF.

ANZAC:

Adjusted repairs of the three CAs in Sydney to maximize repair capability. They are due out in 4, 11, and 21 days. All the upgraded DDs are due out in 9 days.

Adjusted TF at Sydney that is unloading supplies to return to LA when done.

CHINA:

Sending 27 medium bombers to ground attack the Japanese lead unit going up the road to Sian from Loyang. This will do two things, the first being it will take it out of move mode and put it in combat mode, slowing it down. The second is that he will now have to assign LRCAP to their units, again, tying up assets in China! Hehe…

Oh, also, it will give the Loyang units another day to get towards Sian faster than the Japanese. The Pilots have good skills, but the aircraft are not the best. We will see what they can do. Will be escorting them with the AVG, also.

I'm pretty bad (or really good[8|]) at having ships becoming overdue. Nash thanks for reminding me of that issue. That is probably what is screw up my PP's of late. I must look into that when I get home.

CONUS:

1/198 Coast AA Bn is at San Francisco, its other part of the whole Bn will come in at Bora Bora. I don’t think we will need this unit at Christmas Is. I am thinking of sending it to Bora Bora to make a whole unit. What is your opinion?

208th Coast AA Rgt is at San Francisco. I am thinking it needs to start planning for either Noumea or Luganville.

NOPAC:

DD Dent has worked the dents out at Dutch from the failed recon in force at Attu. In 11 days her two sisters will be ready to help her escort the Crosby which had considerably more dents put in her (Sys 63) to Seattle for further repairs.

TF 361 has arrived at Dutch with the 203rd Cst AA Rgt, docked and unloading. When done she will return to Seattle for the next unit for Dutch.

CHINA:

Defensive units arriving at designated locations.

AVG 1st Sqn has enough supplies for drop tanks, should make them more responsive around Sian this next turn.

CANAL ZONE:

Nothing new. DD escorts for Hornet arrive in three days. Jeff, where do we want her to go? She will have a CL and 2xDD with her when she comes out.

CENTPAC:

We may want to try to send a xAKL with supplies to Wake. There is no detection level on the Island, so it sounds like it is not being watched. Starting one that way approaching from the NE to limit detection. It will have 1700 supplies on it. Should help the Marines on the island and keep the 4 Catalinas flying from there. This will take 16-17 days to just get there and the same coming back.

SOPAC:

Move the SS Cuttlefish at Brisbane to Pier Side repair until the overloaded repair yard is cleared of CL Perth in 11 days, the Cuttlefish will repair much more rapidly.

CVTFs and SCTFs are still hidden from prying eyes. No changes there.

TF 179 continues to load the BF for PM from Townsville.

PHILLIPINES:

Supplies have run out at Manila and Clark. Only 8000 at Battaan. Won’t be long.

CONUS:

TF400 loaded with 11900 supplies at Seattle, en route to Dutch Harbor.

1st/102nd Inf Bn is waiting at San Fran for the part of the rgt to arrive from the canal zone in LA when it will then move to San Fran to then load up in one TF for Bora Bora where the third unit will be to either use them as separate units or combine them into the parent unit for more punch if needed.

CANAL ZONE:

TF 369 formed from the three xAKs, an APD, and the Brian. Waiting on more xAKs to arrive over the next two weeks (upwards of a dozen more) to ferry them to LA for use there.

NOPAC:

Nothing new to report here.

CENTPAC:

Langley has picked up 13 more flot and is now at 62! She has slowed to one hex a day and now is two weeks from Midway. She may not make it.

SOPAC:

CHINA:

Changed up my ground attacks a little from the A-29s. They are not doing much damage, but should be causing the troops going to Sian to drop out of move mode and make our opponents curse a little.

Changed 2nd Sqn/AVG to CAP 60 to meet the next sweeps en force.
