Pls recommend a game that...

Post by swkuh »

... is a WWII campaign level that is not IGOUGO. Remember doing a Microprose that had continous action and, at interruption, would allow objectives to be changed locally and higher. Believe it was the '44 Ardennes campaign. Then there was an SSI (?) that allowed "plotting" ones moves, attacks, etc. and then letting AI take over for the combat phase. Both were enjoyable, although there was little or no force management plays possible.

Any suggestions?

Take a look at the 'Command Ops' games here. They may well be what you are looking for.

You may also want to take a look at Achtung Panzer and Panzer Command. Opinoins will differ byt I prefer these games to Command Ops.

I 2nd this motion as I just found Command Ops too complicated and too many details. Panzer Command is so much easier to get into without having to read a manual or do a 100 page tutorial.

Command Ops isn't that complicated. And it does stuff for you.

Command Ops allows for a very wide range of management options. You could give a single order to the highest commander on the map if you wanted, or get down to moving individual units if your micro-management fetish pleases. I find it best to command at the regiment level and take direct control of the heavy artillery. Too bad there is not a demo available (to my knowledge).

I've got back to SPWAW, again. One thing in the Steel Panthers series has started to irk me: infantry passengers on vehicles do nothing, except are easy targets on tanks. They don't spot for artillery, they don't shoot, and I suspect they don't detect enemies either. Sure, SPWAW at least has FO and MG variants of Kûbelwagen, but no such variants of Horch nor Stoewer.

So recommend me a turn based tactical scale game where infantry passengers on vehicles contribute something to said vehicle: detection, firepower, anything. Maybe with some penalties: I bet it's more difficult to fire MG34 in Stoewer without a pintle mount.
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.
