Map image without names

Post by LLv34_Snefens »

I can see in some people's AAR they post images of the zoomed out maps with no location names on them.
When I try it, the names always gets added, even if I have them selected as invisible.

Is there something I am not aware of?

Alter Däne,

it works as designed here. Sure you switched the place names off? Perhaps you installed a mod?

It's not that I can't make the names invisible and then capture an image with the Print Screen button:

My problem is that if I use TOAW's feature of capturing the entire map by using the F3 key, it superimpose the place names.

Here is just a section of the map for demonstration.

Hi,
have the same problem. Looks like program does not check placenames visibility option when dumping map image. Hope there is real solution but if not I think I can at least trick opart to dump map jpegs with no visible placenames by specifying "invisible" font in all [PlaceNameFontN] sections in "Opart 3 Font.ini" file. Admittedly in higher map resolutions inside the program placename background is still visible but apparently it does not go into jpeg dump.
Certainly it is far from perfect especially if you need to do fresh map dump every turn but for one time shot when you don't care about current unit positions (or you going to draw units yourself like me) it may be good enough. Let me now if you interested in details.

Just in case - here is a link to invisible trutype font I've used.

Hvorfor et problem Snefens?
OK, granted the .jpg dump shows the places names, but what's the specific purpose for not showing them? <Print Screen> does the trick, unless you really need the whole map as a .jpg dump. kmitahj seems to have a solution though.

The reason I'd like to be able to use the F3 and not the print screen is, that I'm looking to string together images from each turn to create a film of the game. If using the Print Screen I get all the menu bars as well, that would need to be edited out, not to mention if the map is too big, it won't even fit on one screen.

Yes, I know that images of each turn can be made to save automatically, but that is only for the micro-map and the slightly zoomed out map (I don't know their official designation). I was hoping to be able to use the scale depicted in my example above as it gives good overview, while still showing the terrain features.

kmitahj's quickfix will work, but I was just interested in if there was some Fonts.ini setting I could change that would do the same.

Maybe set size to 0? Hmm, gonna try that.
