OT: Another war hero passes

Post by murphys35 »

Vladimir Nedved, one of Czechoslovak war heroes, died on 31 October. He was the last living commanding officer of 311th (Czechoslovak, bomber) RAF squadron in WWII. His amazing story continued after the war when he was forced to leave his country again due to communist oppression. Great hero of my country!

Yes, he returned home several times after the revolution and in 1996 he received Order of White Lion - highest order of the Czech Republic - from hands of president Vaclav Havel. Unfortunately, a lot of his brothers in arms didn't live long enough to feel final satisfaction after decades of communist oppression. Communist treating of our WWII vets was one of most disgusting crimes of that regime.
