And then Jim attacks me with his Catalina's. My Nates seem worthless in this instance. More training indicated?

And here's the biggest upset of the war so far. I did an attack on Manila and it went terribly wrong from the start. 12K losses in one
attack. That's going to set back the capture of Manila for a long long time. Jim may have the manpower to keep Manila for 6 months
or more now. I'm going to have to re-think my tactics in the Philippine Islands now. Maybe if I take down Bataan and then clear out the
mines and then start some program of naval bombardment of Manila. Maybe that will help. Either way it's a tragic setback.

Batavia is another place where I need a lot more people. I've since turned off the bombardment and I've already made arrangements to
move the 4th / B Div from Oosthaven to Batavia, or actually they must land at Merek and walk to Batavia but you get the point. And then
there's the third part of the 4th Division to move from Sumatra to Java that will take place eventually, say the next couple of weeks.

I would have thought that 203 AV against 33 AV would have produced some kind of result but I guess not. I suppose that means that I
can turn off the bombardment and save the supply. On the other hand the guy in the front line "feels" better if he can fire back and that
AA unit would love to turn the guns on the front line and hose it down just for the heck of it. I say let 'em do it. It provides a light show at
night that's unsurpassed. Cooks and clerks come out to the perimeter just to watch the light show. Supply is cheap. I say let 'em do it.

And then the Allies do a bombardment attack at Manila and again there were no results listed. Just to appear curious I looked into the
state of health of all the Jap Combat units at Manila and from the list of all of them I picked the 33rd Div and saw where the disruption and
fatigue are high. So I'm thinking instead of bombardment as the order of the day maybe I should just give everybody a day off. Just
stop and rest a bit. I'm thinking I can pull some of those guys back a hex and put them on rest and it would be a good thing to do. It
might improve the AV I'm seeing.

The Zuikaku came down with a serious ailment.......some major damage that needs to be fixed. I'm sending it to a repair shipyard,
probably Naha, with an escort to make the trip safer and it should get there within a week. This comes at a bad time too, I could really
use her services out on the front lines. But, probably better to repair the damage before it gets worse and would take twice as long to fix
in the yards.

Image

There is only 1 point of major engine damage. Really it's not a big deal, there's no need to put Zuikaku in repair yard.

Hey Puhis dude, good to hear from you. Um.........I suppose I COULD drive the Z boat with the damage it has it's just that I've gotten in
the habit of fixing my ships when they develop any damage at all so that most of the time most of the boats in the TF's don't have any
damage at all. Which is a good thing. The problem, and I'm assuming you're aluding to it in your post, is that there's a repair time cost
with that policy. The ship is out of service while it's getting fixed. That's time you could have been using the boat. I think maybe I read in
somebody's AAR a while back that not fixing the damage can lead to further damage even more costly in time and supplies, especially
if one were to try to run a damaged boat at full speed. My dad was a pilot and taught me that fixing the problemo early is always less
costly. I don't know if that means anything to you but I thought I'd say it anyway. The Z boat won't be in dry dock long, it's the trip to the
dry dock that is scortching my underpants.

TF 38 used to be three separate boats each w/ their escort. I combined them all into just one TF w/ three escorts instead because, and
I don't know how well you can see this, there appears to be a thin green line in the hex w/ TF 38 and that could be interpreted to be an
Allied sub. So this is a defensive move. There's no mouseover response with the thin green line there but I'm taking no chances.

Actually, I think Truk can repair 1 point of engine damage, at least if you have AR ship there (and you should have). Repairing takes couple days. No need to sen her to Japan.

If you really need Z, then don't worry about 1 point engine damage. I've never seen that lead to further damage.

Rabaul ran out of supplies......which would be a problem itself I could eventually solve but there's two Tina units at Rabaul that I was
using to fly supplies to the troops at Port Moresby. So I moved them to location code named "Fin Shift Haven" instead since there's
supply galore there. And the Betty unit that was stationed w/ the Tina units I put on ground attack instead of naval search.

Well, let's try that instead then. I'll see if I can't find her in the constillation of TF's I have and re-route her to Truk, because I do believe
I have an AR ship there indeed. Let's just fix her here out in the "field" instead of going all the way to Naha or somewhere. Thanks for
the tips.
