Public Beta updated v1.12 Now Available!

This exciting new release is a faithful adaptation of the renowned Conflict of Heroes board game that won the Origins Historical Game of the Year, Charles Roberts Wargame of the Year and the James F. Dunnigan Design Elegance Award, as well as many others!

Designed and developed in cooperation with Uwe Eickert, the original designer of Conflict of Heroes, and Western Civlization Software, the award-winning computer wargame studio, no effort has been spared to bring the outstanding Conflict of Heroes gameplay to the computer. Conflict of Heroes includes an AI opponent as well as full multiplayer support with an integrated forum and game lobby. To remain true to the core gameplay of the board game, the PC version is designed to be fun, fast and easy to play, though hard to master. The game design is also historically accurate and teaches and rewards platoon and company-level combined arms tactics without overwhelming the player with rules.

This is TMOADL (The Mother Of All Downloads). Got it on the second try. But I am confused. Does this update contain the improved counter graphics? Will there likely be any changes to this patch when it is made official & not public beta? Doesn't seem like there will be a gazillion people testing it but I may be wrong.

The higher resolution counters were in the last patch. In this patch I tweaked the anisotropy settings of the counter numbers to try to make them more legible on some video cards at far distances or oblique angles.

If everything works properly, then it is not likely there will be any changes between this and the official version.

I tried and loved it. Now the next battles and extension packs can come.

Only question: Why is this update named 1.12 ... after 1.5? [8|]

One little think could be better: The scenario setting.
1) The rules option should be seen by both players in the "start scenario" screen (you must ask and trust your opponent).
2) At the moment you must know the scenario for mp (no big deal, you can play one time sp) to know which units will come in which turn and where. There is no complete scenario description like in the boardgame scenario book.
3) Unit placement: I am not able to see the stats and the los of the units. More important with random qualities (place the units to see the stats and make undo).

But this are all no big problems. I can live with that (my solutions are in the brackets).

Thanks!

Hello:

I would also like to have downloadable scenario cards for all scenarios, just like is available for the boardgame. This would make a big difference for me in terms of planning and would also increase the immersion for me.

In terms of setup. I agree it would be nice to check LOS so you know you are placing your heavy hitters in good locations.

Also, in terms of setting up a scenario with a lot of units (Prepez?), I would like to suggest a 2-stage process. Right now, the unit list you have to place covers most of the map. You cannot see the map during one of the most important phases of the game. Could we not have 1) only the map shows up first so you can scan/understand it and check LOS; and then 2) you click next or something and the reinforcement list overlays the map?

Thanks,

Gerry

So its just an engine update and no added units correct? Still haven't downloaded it yet, connection keeps timing out. Hoping to get it installed by the end of the weekend.

If that happens more than once, it sounds like a firewall or antivirus issue,

Updates 1.6 - 1.11 were tested internally.

1. You should be able to see the rules options in the scenario description screen, as depicted below.
2. The scenario description screen should contain most all of the information necessary to play a firefight. Reinforcement areas aren't shown here, but these can be displayed by clicking on the reinforcement symbols at the bottoms of the clock graphics near the top of the screen.
3. During reinforcements, basic unit stats are shown on the tooltip that appears when you hover over a unit button. Activating the L key for this screen is a good idea.

Just played Gerry in the lobby. We discussed rules in the chat, I clicked the options button and selected, click host new game and off we go. Nice

I clicked my commander to see the above report. Another nice feature.

I did not find this in the wiki.

If fact there are a few things that need to be added to the wiki. Can anybody edit the wiki?

Thanks to JD for taking me for a spin. Once I learnt the ropes, I found it an enjoyable playing environment. I recommend giving HtH a go if you have not done so already.

I tried using the L key in the setup phase and it does not work. Or did you mean when checking future reinforcement zones for LOS?

It doesn't work there now, but adding it there in a future patch would be easy to do (I think...) and is a good idea.
