The incredible disappearing SCR-270

Post by XPav »

So I'm transporting a base unit. I fire up the C-47s, and everyone but the SCR-270 gets there. Good.

Now, since that base is surrounded by subs, I go "hey, lets use sub transport." So I get 4 S-class subs together and tell them to load the unit with the radar.

2 subs say they're loading this unit (breaking the radar in half?). Next turn, these 2 subs are carrying nothing, the other 2 subs are carrying supplies, and the base force fragment with the radar is nowhere to be found. Its not in my reinforcement list either.

Its gone.

So

1) Its a bug -- there is no check for low-capacity sea transport to ensure that they can load individual pieces of equipment

or

2) The crew of the submarines broke the radar, threw it overboard and have burned all the paperwork.
I love it when a plan comes together.

I vote for number 2. I doubt that you would have any more success getting an SCR-270 onto a submarine than you would onto a C-47. I think this is an example of the designers not anticipating the creative stuff actual players attempt to do.

I am far more concerned with the SCR-270s that disappear after the unit has been transported into forward areas and then never reappear no matter how long the unit stays in a non-malaria zone after being withdrawn for refit and repair. I never knew before how susceptible radar was to malaria and what a fatal disease it is for a radar set.

The rapid deterioration and non-recovery of land based radar sets have been with us from the start. Given that radar is one of the technology advantages that the allies are supposed to hold over the Japs, it would be nice if a base kept its radar a bit longer than a few weeks in malarial/jungle/rust(?) areas.

This is the first time it's ever occurred to me to discuss it.

I also believe that the historical rendering would be more accurate if replacements and replacement parts became available. If not, the radar sets should not disappear entirely, but should merely become damaged, so that they can be repaired as with other units.

(* applaud *)

I sooo agree! My precious radar sets melt in the first T-storm that blow thru!

Let's make them a little more hardy, or at least able to be repaired!

This has been around since the initial release! Is it a hex bug or a jungle rot bug?
