I think there is a lot of charm in January and February turns. To certain extend they become test of determination and nerves.

I really like it. Germans lack strength and Soviets mobility so it is perfect recipe for weird front-line shape and semi-encirlced strong point defences.

Guys who experienced playing 42 for Soviet, do you build light guns and light howitzers brigades in early 42?

Advice from opponent [;)]

In my opinion they are both crap, save AP You want to spend on artillery divisions.

I built them (a dozen) but I'm pretty certain they were totally useless. Suffice to say that they saw no action at all [:D]

I don't think they make a lot of sense when you are on the run (as I was). Now let's take for example Michael's game vs Pelton (a Soviet player not on the run). These bdes (weak or not) might give him an extra punch if he decides to attack the German positions. So in this case they might be useful.

So it depends. Will you be on the run or have the upper hand? That's the whole difference I guess [:)]

Those hasty attacks are a bad idea; Soviet Army in late 1941 or early 1942 not good enough for those attacks to go well.

T29 centre (German)

Situation in crucial areas from my perspective.

Finally January has come so I decide to make a stand. I need to stabilise front for a moment to get opportunity to build-up fortifications.

I plan to achieve it using panzers deployed from winter quarters, withdrawal on flanks, counter-attacking using mountain divisions supported by mobile units and holding Vyazma - as long as I have corridor to city my situation is ok - I care to keep my panzers there with tanks full of petrol.

As soon as crisis is over I will try to move best units back to safety.

T29 south (German)

My forces here are not numerous enough to prevent encirclement of Stalino region. I will delay as long as I can and then retreat west.

T29 Crimea (German)

There is no danger here, but unfortunately Mike's raid prevented me from using Romaninan diggers elsewhere.
