A good day for bomber eradication.

The B-24s were shot down over Boela by the house Zeroes, while the Wellingtons fell over Pegu to Tojos flying out of Chiang Mai.

Mili falls at the first attempt. There was virtually no AV left after constant Ground Attacks from the air and Naval Bombardments.

We did manage to ding a couple of CVs, a BB and a DD in response though. The hits on the CVs all went through the flight deck.

Been a while ...

Nothing has happened since the last update except that Maloelap has been turned into a smoking ruin by constant naval and air bombardment (unopposed). In fact the fortress unit was completely wiped out by attrition some time ago.

Well now it looks like he intends to land there.

Our sub skirmishers did quite well, and ended up in the same hex as the invasion armada. Two subs went down but it was worth the price.

Maloelap falls.

My "massed" air strike out of Roi-Namur managed to put one torpedo into an xAK and nothing else.

Fuel storage explosion on CV Wasp
Fuel storage explosion on CV Enterprise
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Essex certainly went down, and the other two CVS are not looking healthy at all.

Why I am feeling gamey? Well, the attack (from Roi-Namur) went in at 1,000ft, and at this altitude the CAP is basically rendered useless. Which means that 40 torpedo bombers can sink half the USN CV fleet. Now you could say that he didn't help himself by not suppressing Roi-Namur airfield before moving in, but I do feel that without some action this is potentially a game-ending moment. So I have proposed a HR discussion.

The trade I have in mind is to stop Naval Attacks at low-level by anything other than F/FB types in exchange for a ban on Ground Attacks by anything other than F/FB/DB and low-level Attack Bombers. He has used 2E bombers on Ground Attack at medium altitude to basically totally erase the garrisons of Mili and Maloelap before landing and there was nothing I could do about it.

We'll have to see what ensues ...

Ii have a simple rule for CV CAP.......... 1/3 at 5000ft, 1/3 at 10000ft and 1/3 at 15000ft. That said, even if all his CAP was at 20000ft they should have done better than that.....

I think I got very lucky with the die rolls. Never have I seen so many torpedo hits from that number of planes. The pilots had NavT skill of 60-70.

1 July 1943

Supply: 4.025m
HI: 1.405m (16,000 factories)
Fuel: 6.813m
Aircraft: 4,629 (4,306 ready)
Ship losses: 1 x DD, 10 x E, 7 x APD, 12 x SS

It's half-way through 1943, and the IJN has still only lost a single DD ...

Score: Japan 20k, Allies 17k (draw)

My opponent is still thinking about my HR proposals. The sinking of the Essex has really shaken him up, but he is annoyed with the game engine not me, so that's good.

In the meantime I will desist from low-level Naval Attacks regardless.

Aircraft notes

I now have my first P1Y1 Frances and N1K1 Rex units, and I have also just created an embryonic J2M2 Jack unit with 5 planes. My mind changed on that one since Zeros are just useless against the newer Allied fighters. However the ugly George will still not be produced.

The KB is now fully equipped with the D4Y1 Judy and B6N1 Jill.

Bear in mind the George 2 has a 2 service rating and is better all round than the Jack.
