Andy Mac v SPrior: Hunt the Bismark !!!!

Post by Andy Mac »

OK this is a Variant game using 8 variants that Simon and I are playing

Baseline was Scenario 2 and we each hav 8 variant points to choose.

I chose

1. Invasion Convoy from the Invasion reinforcements - this was a deliberate choice as it gives me a Divs worth of Aus replacements allowing the rebuild or regeneration of the AUstralian Army as an offensive force 6 months early and gives me 400 aircraft for the pool (300 of them obsolete fairey battles but will be good for rear area trainers for all CW nations and last ditch bombers)

2. + 5 Exp for all CW Pilots

3. 5 Ironman CW ships (HMS Vanguard + 4 Cruisers including the super cruiser HMS Drake)

4. Acceleration of Ships by 1 year (HMS Indefategable and 2 Escort Carriers)

5. Increase in capacity of a Carrier class by 10 aircraft (Illustrious Class)

6. Acelertion of an aircraft by 3 months - F4U1A

7. Additional 5 point factory added for aircraft (Wellington Ic/Wellington BX)

8. Remove withdrawal from 2 ships (Illustrious and Formidable)

As you can see most of my choices are aimed at strengthening the allies in late 42 - mid 43

The evil empire has went down a different route choosing options that are going to cause mayhem in early 42 I will list those I know about when Simon finishes his choices but as a minimum I expect to see the ship the Allies thought they had snk in 40 yes folks the Bismark is back and somehow has ended up in Asia !!!

:)

Simon has chosen that I am aware of

+5 to pilots (IJA)
+5 to pilots (IJN)
Imperial Guard Div in stealth mode bypasses Thai Govt
Bismark + 4 Kriegsmarine Surface Ships
8 x Type IXC Uboats
2000 PP's at start
+10 to Junyo class capacity

Cannot remember the other one.

The only down side si we couldnt find an editor so there are limited surprises for us both would have been nice to get someone else to process changes.

So Simon has went for a real push at start Imperial Guards stealth movement is worrying as that indicates a plan to roll over Malaya

Negotiations are in progress so we may have more not sure should be fun none the less

Bismark was clearly a good ship, but suffered from the lack of inter-war experience prior to being built. How are you modelling her? Got a screen shot?

Didn't mean the art, just a screen pic of the ship display showing the stats you gave it.

I'd love to see the stats for all of the German ships including the subs. Always been curious how they would stack up by the numbers. How about leaders on those ships? Will they be 'new' German leaders or Japanese? The planes?

in the Iron man scenario the German U-Boats are simply devastating... something like 90XP...

I have use them on an Ironman Scen and they can grant a competent player 1 target per turn til 1943. That's 400 ships !!!

Good luck andy!!

Two questions:

- With the choice 1 I suppose that if Australian Reinforcement Activation is triggered, you will get less reinforcements, isn't ?
- Wellingtons? Why those ?

- ( Sorry I lied when I said two questions ) Fairey Battles !!!?? OMG. Why not Stringbags or Albacore. More weak but wit a torpedo [8D]

Yes it takes away some of the risk over Australian activation
Well I wanted to address a weakness reality is RAF gets enough Hurricanes and B17's are very short duration of production

I get to add a factory but I wanted to max number of frames I get for my investment remember I am not allowed to change end dates or start dates for production

Wellingtons with 8 x 500lber have almost the bomb load of a B17 and gave me the most frames for a 5 aircraft factory

e.g. I would rather have more Vildebeeste but they end production in Dec 41 so I would only get 5 aircraft if I select them

Same principal witht eh invasion reinforcment I am not allowed to select the component I only get to choose one unit thats already in the list this was the optimin chloice

Fairey battles were in theatee and used for training what I am doing is realeasing them for Sqn service as a CW aircraft this will

a. give me the ability to concetnrate Blenheims/Beauforts and Wellingtons all into front line ervice not forcing me to use them for training so I save ops losses

b. Last resort ground attack bombers in numbers - admittedly they are slow low bomb load and not long range but as a last resort ground attack aircraft they at least have the benefit of being plentifull.

But I accept they are not perfect but remember the condition is I only get to use whats already there

I am allowed one selection from the invasion reinforcment section

So If I choose one of the 4 convoys of replacements its a choice in air terms between

Australia 300 obsolete light bombers, 170 first line aircraft
NZ 200 obsolete light bombers, 24 obsolete TBs , 150 modern aircraft
India 440 first line aircraft
US 70 aircraft

Looking at it again I may have made the wrong choice !!!
