Tech problem

Post by jzpops »

Hi! Who should I contact regarding a prob with the Matrix Games version of TOS?

This is NOT in ANY WAY a problem with the quality of the game or gameplay, or a complaint about programmers, employees, etc. I just switched my TOS game to a new computer, and can't get the sound to work properly.

I'd just download the game again, but my "game" comp doesn't have internet access anymore. :( :( :(

Any advice would be appreciated!

1.4 isn't supported any longer and isn't connected to Matrix Games at all. Its freeware and AS IS. But I'm willing to help if you can explain whats going wrong. All sounds are failing ? Just music ? Be precise and tell me your configuration.

Well, here's my problem.

After making all the decisions for the Battle Module (team experience, size, etc.), a message pops up:

"1.4.0
Could not init wave library!
Click OK to continue"

No other error messages appear.

After clicking "OK", the battle starts as usual, and all operations work as normal, except there is no sound: no music, weaponfire, movement, equipment on/off, anything.

However, if I quit the battle, and go back to the main page, the sound for the other two modules will work again.

I'm operating Windows XP, home version. If you need more info, I'm willing to look, if told what to look for. :)

Thanks for your help, in advance.

Oops! I should also say that, in my old comp, TOS worked just fine, using Windows 98. It's only on the new comp that I'm having problems.

As a first shot I would advice to uncomment nomp3 in binit.dat. If this doesn't work try nomusic. Hope the names are right as I didn't had a look at the file for a year.

Thank you! I'll give both a try when I get home! (I'm at work right now. :( )

DOH! I had this exact problem once, long ago. I wish I could remember how I fixed it. Of course, by the time I do, I'm sure Larkin will have fixed your problem. :)

Well, I tried the following alterations to the binit file:

From "#nomusic" to:

"nomusic", "#", "#nomusic#", and just erasing the line. Same alterations for "#nocomp3".

If you have no more ideas, don't worry: I'll just have to go without sound until TOS:WS comes out.

But I'll miss chainsaws! :)

Speaking of tech problems, when I play the game, well I do some turn against the other team, and then, I get that message: Autosave2 failed.

Does anyone know what that mean?

You must mean nomp3.

Available parameters:

# Disables intro mp3 music :
nomp3
# Disables ingame music :
nomusic
# Disables all sounds :
#nosound

I once got that message when I'd copied ToS from a CD, because the files were read only. Does a similar situation exist for you, or am I completely loony, as usual? :D

Nocomp3? That must be the option to play ToS without your computer. :D

Sorry...I really do get bored here at work. Wish I could play ToS.

Check your file attributes. It seems the game can't write to HD.

Are you playing from floppy with write protection ;) ?

Well, the game can write. It's when I start shooting, 3 or 4 turn after, the bug start. I can restart the game after and load the auto save and if I finish the game before the bug start, the team is updated.
