just out of curiosity... why start all these new polls when there is a big one going on in the other thread in "General discussions? - I mean fighters will come up eventually... and the guys administrating the polls put a lot of effort into it...

My mom says it was Staff Sargent Joe Louis. She is 85 and knows a thing or two. I have to agree.

MAurelius, there are, as you would expect, a lot of people (indeed the vast majority) who visit the Matrix site because of their interest in military history - particularly, WWII in the case of regulars at the WITPAE, WITE and World In Flames sites (admittedly some people are just gamers and the history side is not so important - which is fair enough).

There are therefore a lot of knowledgable peeps here with great knowledge of ships, aircraft etc etc. I would have thought that this would make ideal, a competition to find peoples favourites. Everyone has an opinion - and most people like to voice theirs after all. But in practice this hasn't happened. From certain observations and looking at peoples posts I think I can answer your question MAurelius. There are four main reasons:

1. Genuine lack of interest - which is of course perfectly fair enough.
2. A feeling of superiority - they couldn't possibly venture onto something so lowly as the GD Forum to vote [8|]
3. They are so ****ing rude, they nick the idea and run their own thread in a different forum without even disguising their total lack of regard for other posters.
4. They are too ****ing rude to bother reading instructions that someone has taken the time and effort to post i.e. they are interested in voicing their opinion (as evidenced by their voting in the wrong place) but as a result, post in the wrong place.

Edit: And for the avoidance of doubt, this is not aimed at tigercub.

Between playing my pbem and reading through the WitPAE forums I don't know where to find time to go to any of the others. But let's see: 1. not that one. 2. Most definitely me [:D] 3. All too often, I'm afraid. 4. Ditto.

Anyways I'm voting P-61 Black Widow. It could hump anything it wanted at night.

Can't narrow to 2: Spit, Corsair, Mustang.  All classic designs, very appealing to the eye.
