Well, my Pats did it for me last week. I'm going with them again this week and giving the 49ers 3 points.

I know... But the Mayan's haven't written "the world will end in 2012", have they?ORIGINAL: Apollo11
Hi all,

Please note that currently it is NOT year 2012 - it is year 2020 (most probably)... in dark middle ages one pries wrongly summed up the years and, thus, we have this discrepancy... this is very well know fact and even Pope in his latest book admitted that once again very openly... [;)]
So - the Mayan 2012 happened years ago... [:'(]
I somehow doubt that the Majas created their calendar according to the birth of christ... [;)]
They didn't - but our years calculation is wrong... it is not (strictly speaking) 2012 right now... it should be 2020... [;)]
Leo "Apollo11"
It simply ends at our calender's 2012 - or at 4 Xochitl 1 Ollin 1 Calli according to the Aztek calendar or at 63 V of the discordian calendar, or at 1. 10. 1391 Iranian calendar...

Hi all,
I don't know if the scholars who deciphered Mayan language / calendar (I think they were 19th century Germans and that codex is in some German museum) knew about the offset in calendar that we use... [;)]
So... is the date for "world Armageddon" calculated in our time or the date was known for some time (19th century when breakthrough was made with Mayan stuff)?

RE: THE THREAD!!!
Hi all,
Of course I understand that! [:D]
The question is whether the date was calculated in our modern time when we for sure knew that we have offset with birth of Christ - or the the Mayan date was calculated in 19th century when breakthrough was made with Mayan stuff (and when the offset for our calendar was not yet accepted as known fact)?

Whet he's trying to say is that the date 12/21/12 is not based on the "western" calendar, but extrapolated from the Mayan's own dating system. This coming Friday just happens to be the day that the end of the Mayan cycle falls on. [:D]

RE: THE THREAD!!!
The date isn't on the calendar. It is simply where one of the found calendars ends. The Mayan calendar - what a surprise [;)] - isn't based on the Georgian calendar. Instead, their own system works in cycles. One of these cycles is more than 5.300 years long, and this cycle will end on 21st or 23rd.ORIGINAL: Apollo11

Their calendar system was propably either adjusted to ours by living witnesses (unlikely), or by finding events in Mayan sources that helped adjust their calender to our system, like a distinctive comet.

RE: THE THREAD!!!
Hi all,
Torsten, I still think we misunderstand... [:D]
All I am saying is that we should check:
#1
Whether the (German) scholars in 19th century calculated that Mayan calendar ends on 21st December 2012. by calculating years from our standard calendar (which says it is 2012 now). This all happened in 19th century when it was not known that we have offset of about 8 years.
#2
Or this whole "2012 thing" is new and dating from current research done in our time (late 20th Century / early 21st century) and was deducted by some astronomical event (in which case our calendar would not matter)!

RE: THE THREAD!!!
That wouldn't change a thing, for the reasons stated above.Whether the (German) scholars in 19th century calculated that Mayan calendar ends on 21st December 2012. by calculating years from our standard calendar (which says it is 2012 now). This all happened in 19th century when it was not known that we have offset of about 8 years.
Whoever calculated it, didn't calculate "12/21/12" (or "12/23/12) and made that dependent on the year, but the coming weekend.
So no matter which calender you use, whether you add the miscalculated years, or weather you take the jewish calender where we are already in 5773 - it will still be this weekend.
