Black start screen

Just upgraded to W8 64 bit. I have 4 other matrix wargames that have no issues..I cannot get the graphics to work on BOTB.

The initial menu looks fine. Then, I hit Play and it lets me pick resolutions...no matter what I try, once I get to the main screen and then hit New game....that next screen with the scenarios is black...the scenarios on the right side are white and I can pick one but then I cannot see much as a lot of that menu is black. If I guess where I pick a side and the scenario starts, the map looks OK but the left side menus are all black and I can hardly make out anything..they are totally black.

I have a regular Nvidia card in my laptop and the game worked perfect before I upgraded..now I get black menus and cant play the game.
I've played around with the graphics settings but nothing fixes it.

Driving me nuts as I never played this much and now I want to...augh...any ideas?

Well...I tried NOT picking the screen resolution and the game plays fine..so, I will NEVER pick a resolution...it works good now...strange.
