I've looked at those and plan to try that at some point. Do you have particular interest in that? If so, could you explain a bit just for my understanding of why?

I'm sure most people have gotten Python installed and running on their systems. However, if an application can be made stand alone and save the users installing support packages they don't otherwise need, I think it is a far more elegant distribution solution to do so.

Just a suggestion for the future.

OK. That was why I started looking at it. One allure of the plain Python distribution is that people can look at the actual code all they want.

BTW, have you use those two tools? What is your experience with them? What do you think of them?

I think it is important to provide the simplest installation and be able to run on the most systems as possible. That is why I wrote the rotating artwork display utilities in humble MSDOS. It was crude and pushed the code to the limits but it was guaranteed to run on every Windows machine with no additional installations.

Though examining the code will be a stimulating intellectual exercise for the enlightened, I think the majority of users will just want a simple reliable install so they can get in there and use your application!!

I have been looking for a suitable language/utility set to write GUI applications for some time. You bringing Python-Tcl/TK to my attention with Intel Monkey seems to have provided a solution for me. I have looked at Tcl/TK before but the way they have integrated with Python has made it very usable.

I haven't actually tried either of py2exe (doesn't seem to support Python3.3) or cx_freeze but they look promising and will be the way I will be going for any distributions I may do.

Edit: I downloaded and successfully installed PIL (Python Imaging Library) and cx_freeze. PIL works perfectly but I haven't tried cx_freeze yet.

Just a thought, have you put in a search term?

Also have you got your games archived? The utility looks for game files in a sub folder called archive - which is populated every turn provided you have set the -archive flag on your game properties.....

You can copy previous files into the archive folder manually, but they have to be in there to be read.

Just a thought, have you put in a search term? I loaded the last replay, (noted the files did go to archive), then searched for Hiei which was in a surface combat last turn. Then I deleted the archive, copied and pasted all the old asignt/combat reports into the archive, to no avail. But I have yet to run a new turn, which I am about to do.

Regarding witploadAE - You don't need to run that program directly. Instead, that program (which was written by the AE Devs, maybe Michael, dunno) is used by the program "GetbasesFromScenario" (you have V1-0 there). Run that program by double-clicking on it and follow instructions. That will retrieve a list of bases for the scenario that you are playing, which Intel Monkey will use. You only need to run that program one time, as it creates a file that stays in the Intel Monkey folder. But if you start a new game with a new scenario, run it again to replace that file with the new list of bases.

Regarding the SigInt coming up with 0 records - There are a couple of possibilities, but from your screen pic it looks like one of two things. Which side are you playing? Only the side that you are playing gets any SigInt records inside the SigInt reports, so make sure you click on the correct Intel Monkey .bat file (-A for Allies and -J for Japan).

The second thing is that when you run WITP-AE, your command line must include the "-archive" switch. If it does not, then the game will not bother putting copies of the reports in the \save\archive sub-folder, and they will not be there for Intel Monkey to find and report on.

If you have only played the first turn of the game, then you can manually copy those report files into the archive folder. Then add the -archive switch so they are automatically put there from now on. You will see the naming convention when they are put there automatically, just rename the files you manually copied to comply.

If you have already played a whole bunch of turns, then turn on the -archive switch now. Previous turns' reports can only be generated by running the combat replay, one turn after another. That might not be practical, in which case you will at least have available reports 'from now on'.

Got it!

If you peek at my AAR you see that both SigInt and Combat sections are yielding good results. I am getting back into it now for a short amount of time each day rather than trying to get big blocks of time.

I think I see the problem. The default configuration for Intel Monkey assumes that it is in - using your path as an example - the folder

C:\Matrix Games\RA70FatR\tools\Intel Monkey

But yours is actually in

C:\Matrix Games\RA70FatR\tools\Intel Monkey\Intel Monkey V0-4-1b

The easiest way for you to get it working is to move the Intel monkey files up one level to the 'Intel Monkey' folder. If you really want it to be in the folder 'Intel Monkey V0-4-1b' I can talk you through how to make that change inside the Intel Monkey program. But you would then have to make that change whenever I release a new version. If you move the files up one level as I suggest then you can just use the default configuraion that it comes with.
