Base development

Post by Granola »

Hello all,

Well I picked up UV the other day and I'm struggling up the steep curve to learn to play. I feel relieved that so many others are confused by this game to start out.

My question is in regards to developing bases. I was playing scenario 2 last night as the IJN and I started the game with two land forces on Guada (one north and one south of Lunga)

One of those forces consisted of 2 Construc Batts and a SNLF(?) batt. I wanted the construc batts to start building a base and have the satisfaction of seeing my flag appear beside Lunga. Within the ten days of the scenario, no Japanese flag appeared.

Was this because it takes longer than ten days to establish a base? Or because scenario 2 is limited and no new bases can be established? Or was it someother reason I can't even conceive of?

Cheers,
Granola

Hi, You need supply to build (sometimes a lot of supply)
You did tell the units to build....right?
Click on base, at top right you have options."build airfield, build port, build fort"
As Japanese you should only build one of these at a time. (The allies can place 300 engineers and 100 vechicles and knock out all three at once)

Thanks for the reply,

I did order the Engineers to build. I don't remember now what I ordered them to build. I guess I'm wondering if the flag doesn't appear untill something is built?

flag

Hi, You will get a flag as soon as a level 1 base (port or airfield) is built. Watch the percentage from turn to turn to see how fast they are building)

Also, if you told the engineers only to build fortifications, you won't make a base. A base must have either a level 1 airfield or port.

Aside from that, they do need at least a couple thousand units of supply to make any significant progress.

Lvl 0 bases...

I would also add that if possible, try to make your first move when building from level 0 (beach, etc.) to make a level 1 port. Unloading *anything* at a level 0 port usually requires an inordinate amount of time. I'm learning that now in my PBEM with Grotius. Fortunately, he doesn't know that ;)

Oh...wait a minute..... Grotius, if you read this...don't believe it! (think he'll buy that, folks? :D )
