70 4E bombers wiped away almost 2,000 Japs on this little Atoll. I guess it's too crowd and they have no place to hide[8D]

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Sep 06, 43
When Allies' carriers are supporting the landing actions around Wake Island, the combined fleet move southeast instead, to the belly of Marshall and Gilbert. Japs bombarded Nauru island and Mili.
However, the bombardment fleet fail to retreat before sun rise(second time), and in the morning, hordes of Allie's torpedo bombers attacked the heavy cruiser fleet, 4 Japanese heavy cruisers are reported to sunk, including the very powerful CA Ashigara and other 3 old Aoba class cruisers.
This is the biggest single time lost of Japanese fleet in the past two years.

Nice result! Aoba took two torps as well, if the reports are accurate. She will be crawling away at one or two hexes per phase, so you may get another shot at her!

Good job! One more attack should do it at Wake. He lost 30% of his remaining troops (which would be most of his fighting troops) while you only lost 10%. You also got the forts down to 1. You should attack again within the next two days before he rebuilds any forts.

The div unit is under severe penalties on a 6,000 size atoll. I won't use divisions in the future for small atoll invasion.

RE: battle in Marshall get more intensive
One of the other posters (Crackaces, maybe) has stated that you must overstack to have enough strength to take a well-developed atoll. I think that is true until you get the forts down but then you can remove some troops and let the rest finish the defenders. Bombing/bombardment to disrupt them is a also part of the formula.
Good luck in your assault.

RE: battle in Marshall get more intensive
If I could offer some advice, the key to taking a small atoll is to overstack by quite a bit. However, to pull it off, you need plenty of ships that are loaded with only supplies and if the battle takes longer than a day it is helpful to have some supply ships in reserve. LSTs are great since they unload immediately.

RE: battle in Marshall get more intensive
Thanks Commander Cody, I actually did what you advised. My transports unloading supplies everyday at the beach and the troops on the atoll were never short of supply. I think the problem is the stack cost of 3rd Marine Division, which is about 13000 thus more than twice of the 6,000 cap, which put 3rd Marine Div under great penalties thus be only 1/10 of its original effectiveness.
I draw my conclusion from comparing the tank unit and the div unit. With a 3:1 winning odd, the disruption of 3rd Marine Div rose to 70+, and the tank unit's disruption stayed low. That's why the next day I ordered the tank unit to attack alone and successfully took the island.
And that's why next time I'm going to try 3 regiments instead of a whole division and see how they perform.
