Help with Camera Controls

This exciting new release is a faithful adaptation of the renowned Conflict of Heroes board game that won the Origins Historical Game of the Year, Charles Roberts Wargame of the Year and the James F. Dunnigan Design Elegance Award, as well as many others!

Designed and developed in cooperation with Uwe Eickert, the original designer of Conflict of Heroes, and Western Civlization Software, the award-winning computer wargame studio, no effort has been spared to bring the outstanding Conflict of Heroes gameplay to the computer. Conflict of Heroes includes an AI opponent as well as full multiplayer support with an integrated forum and game lobby. To remain true to the core gameplay of the board game, the PC version is designed to be fun, fast and easy to play, though hard to master. The game design is also historically accurate and teaches and rewards platoon and company-level combined arms tactics without overwhelming the player with rules.

Help with Camera Controls

Post by Gerry4321 »

Still struggling to quickly get the view I want. I often use the "Right-click on the map surface and drag the mouse" option to get what I want. But then when I use the wheel to zoom, it seems to default to the regular view. Is that correct?

Wondering if some keys could be used to quickly go to a certain view, e.g. numbers 1-9? And maybe some of these we could assign to a view ourselves?

Hi Gerry, I don't know if you've looked at the in-game help but it contains a section on hotkeys (posted below). You can use the A-W-S-D keys to move the camera around. This might be easier than the right-click option.

Also (don't know if you know this or not) but the camera tilt, for a lack of a better term, affects how the mouse scroll wheel functions. By default it is in the 3/4 or isometric view like you are looking at the board diagonally down. If you zoom in this view mode, the camera arcs downward in a curve (hard to explain but I think you know what I mean). If you switch to the top-down view (my preference) and zoom, the camera simply zooms up and down, no arcing.

Below are the top four buttons on the right-side controls. The second one down on the right column is the toggle for 3/4 versus top-down.

Is this what you were looking for (both responses)?

Thanks but that is not so much my problem so I should have been clearer. I really like the part where you can drag the map about.

What I am struggling with:
I like a view where I have the map tilted a bit (so not top-down and not "flat" on the table). I get the tilt that I want set up. Now I want to zoom in on this. When I use the mouse wheel to do this however, it zooms in but flattens the map on the board. So I have lost my tilt.

Gotcha - I had the same problem in the beginning and that's eventually what led me to use the top-down view, i.e. losing that tilt while zooming. With the big board hi-res version of the AtB maps, I don't mind the top-down as much and only switch to the 3/4 view situationally. If you do figure it out, please share as I might switch back.

Thanks Mike. I just got a new computer and I am now able to view the giant-sized maps. So I will try the top-down view and see how it goes.

I do think there are opportunities here for them to add a few more shortcuts to help with this.

I agree. Maybe if Eric or Erik have a new hot-key list they can share it. I know they added the new LOS check as "L" but there might be others. Guys, any chance we can get a new list of hot-keys?

Congratulations on the new PC rig! Laptop or Desktop? What are the main specs?

Combos of crtl shift and alt with the scroll wheel does different things.

I read the posts and thanks for the clear explanation. I downloaded the patch and and I always use the 3d counters at the present moment. What is the difference I am reading about the maps? I rarely play the game since I have too many games!!!!

I guess this is what I mean, what system preferences do I need?

as well as wonderfully-detailed 2D board game-style maps in very high resolution to complete the experience! Unit counters also received a resolution upgrade, becoming even more visible and showing dynamic stats through each match!

I use the ctrl and alt with the mouse wheel to get the view I want.
It seems to work the easiest.
